Just tested everything using Salifert test kits.

Alk - 8.4 dKh
Mag - 1380
Calc - 380
pH is between 8.2 and 8.4 (This is from the API kit)

Nitrates, Nitrites and Ammonia at Zero

Using Reef Crystals

My water has a slightly milky white color. Zoas, chalices and montis all appear to be doing just fine. Any ideas as to what is going on?

I don't know how old the tank is or if it was ever clear, but cloudy water is almost always a bacterial bloom from over feeding or not having enough or the proper type of bacteria in a tank to process food and wastes. It will clear on it's own, as long as it is not from some sand or something else you put in there without rinsing.

Your the third person in two weeks who has had milky or cloudy water and it was after a water change using RC. Is there a pattern???

No not saying RC isnt a good salt, i had purchased 4 buckets of Red Sea Pro and all 4 were bad (Mag and Ca Count through the roof). There are times when bad lots of salt are sold but no one would know unless you're on several forums to see a pattern. I didnt know that all 4 were bad till i pulled samples from each bucket to test straight.

Do brittle stars release anything that would cloud it? A few times after water changes mine have gone nuts and been out of the rocks and all over the tank and the water got cloudy. Next day they were back hidden and was clear

It's been cloudy for a couple of days. The brittle starts spawning would have gone away by now. It's likely a bacterial bloom since I tried using Coral Frenzy a week ago. More than likely I got carried away or should have slowly started feeding. On a side note, I noticed that the Alk of this batch of RC was crazy low.

Maybe something is spawning in the tank. I have a friend and her snails spawn at every water change and it clouds the water.
