my tank water seems to be clouding a little bit. It has been crystal clear up until about 2 weeks ago. I had an alk issue (dosing tubing clogged unbeknownst to me) alk dropped to 6 causing some monti's to rtn and 1 acro colony. My euphyllia are not looking as good as they have in the past although I'm probably the only one that can tell. So any thoughts to the cloudiness of the water. The alk has been corrected (slowly over 5 days) now running 8.4 again. I added carbon 3 days ago in a bag in the sump. i also run GFO in a reactor.

Did you do a water change? Anytime things go out of wack a nice water change always seems to help me.

Hows your ph? I believe if Alk and ph drop co2 can raise which can increase a bacterial bloom.. maybe a big water change will help.

My current is 8.0 (roughly I only have an Api ph kit and the color is in between the 8.0 and 8.2 reading)

Thx for the replies bmw. I am shutting down the gfo to see if that maybe causing the issue

How did you adjust your alk? More details would help maybe.

I have a dosing pump I basically dose about 60ml of alk daily spread over 20 doses in a 24 hour period. I just increased the dose slightly to raise my level back to normal. I really think the alk swing caused the cloudiness unsure what the chemistry would be that cause the issue

If you dose calcium too doing that at the same time or even too close together can cause the calcium to precipitate and that will cloud the water. Is this possibly what happened?

It is possible I can look to make sure I have the dosers time offset between the 2. I do dose them into separate areas of the sump

Based on the info, calcium precipitation is the most likely cause. It should not take too long to clear up. If you have a very fine filter sock (100 micron) that might speed things along a little. But more than likely you'll just need to wait until it re-dissolves... Doubt that stopping the GFO will help
