Any ideas on why my water seems cloudy. It's not a color, like green or brown which I'm expecting to happen sooner or later, just grayish. I ran a DE filter for about 2 hours yesterday evening and it's clouding up again today. I always appreciate your experienced replies. Thanks.

not sure your if your tank is new/old or still cycling. I saw my tank was extra cloudy one day, was due to a heater gone bad and heated my tank to much. have you checked your parameters?

My guess is bacteria bloom. They will usually take care of themselves in a week or so. It's common with young tanks. Another possibility would be that something is disturbing the sand bed. It's a good idea to check water parameters and make sure all is in order. I've also heard of busted heaters causing similar clouding issues. I would carefully rule that out too.

if your towards the end of your cycle some chemi-pure elite could help clear it up.

I went through the same while cycling, if your cycling it is a bacterial bloom, just go away on its own.

Did you rinse the sand before setup? I didn't because I used live sand and had an issue with cloudy water because of that too.

Both work themselves out... I would check the heater though just to be sure like others have said.

Good luck!
