Hello reef community!
My aquarium water got cloudy (not terribly, but noticeable) literally over night. What do you suppose cause this in such short notice? I think it could a large hermit crab death because I recently purchased 3 Scarlet Red Hermits and I only see one still moving around. Just my thoughts, how say you guys?

What's your water pramameters?

  • White cloudy - bacterial bloom
  • Green cloudy - algae bloom

pH: 8.2
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 2 (up from 1 a week prior)
Phos: 0.08
Alk: 8
Cal: 476
Mag: 1300

I'd say white cloudly, but hard to say with my Radions on.

I wouldn't think a hermit death would cause a bacterial bloom. Your pramameters look good. I'd give it a day or two and see if it clears up. If not, small water change and see if that helps.

Keep a eye out for ammonia and or nitrite during that time.

Thank you for your advice. I'll give it a couple days.

Do you have any large clams? Trochus snails? I've had spawning events give a white cloudy appearance to my water. Usually this is benign and short lived though.

Do you carbon dose? This can cause a bacterial bloom.

None of the above.
