Hey guys so yesterday I did my normal maintenance. Water change, new filter pads, clean the glass but this time instead of using my normal api phos-Zorb I switched to chemipure elite. I’m not sure this is the reason, I’m just trying to give the most information. Usually my water is super clear but when I woke up this morning it was super cloudy. Below are my water parameters and pictures of the tank. The first picture doesn’t show it to much but the second one does.
Tank inhabitants:
Clown fish
Lawnmower blenny
5 turbo snails
2 hermit crabs

Tank & equipment:
Solana 34 gallon
Octopus bh50 skimmer
Innovative marine media reactor with rowaphos

Cloudy water isn’t of much a issue. It could be a bacterial bloom, stirred up sand etc. Give it a day or so should clear up. If your water test is fine then [emoji1360]

Do you think it could be a diatom bloom?

Diatoms will be a brown dust.

I assume you rinsed the new media?

All the snails are alive?

Yes everything is still alive and I did rinse the media. What about a bacteria bloom?

Likely a bacterial bloom. The same thing happened to my tank. Give it some time. If it is still going strong or gets worse after 4-5 days then I would start thinking about an intervention.

Do you use NoPox or another form of dissolved organic carbon dosing (DOC- dosing)

Sincerely Lasse

Only stuff in there is roawphos in a media reactor and chemipure elite. To be honest I don’t even know what that is.

What would I do in the case of a intervention

To be honest I don’t even know what that is.

It is a method to control nutrient levels even known as the vodka method NoPoX is a product. It promote bacterial growth and - if overdosed - can cause milky water. Hence my question.

Sincerely Lasse

I would try mechanical filtration.

If you use filter pads (not filter socks), you can go to a local arts & crafts store and purchase 12"x 12" WHITE felt squares. Place it at the bottom of your filter media stack. This will polish your water. Monitor it closely; depending on water conditions, it can clog up rather quickly.

If chemipure is not rinsed thoroughly it may temporarily cloud your water.. if it doesn’t go away quickly its most likely a bacterial bloom. a cheap UV sterilizer will clear bacterial blooms quickly, I picked up one of these for less that $40 and it works great.. I only use it temporarily when I have issues that need to be addressed.
