My guess is bacterial bloom. You can wait it out or add Microbactor7. Is it a new setup? If so, your tank will right itself in time. If you've had it up for months, you're probably overfeeding...just a guess. If your powerhead was bumped, it could also be fine sand moving around by one of the powerheads. Check to see if the powerheads are pointing into the sand.

its a new set up as fas as feeding theres no fish in it i cycled it usind fritz turbo start live bacteria cycle was complete about 2 weeks ago but just wanted to give a couple of more just added one frag to it should i worry about the coral?

A bacterial bloom happens because of a water quality problem. It could be new tank, over feeding, adding something to the tank such as medications, adding too much new life to the tank at once, etc., etc. One major problem it causes is it depletes the water of oxygen, so it can kill just about anything. Short term blooms probably won't hurt much, especially if you point your powerhead at the surface of the water to agitate it more and get more oxygen into the water. If the bloom clears up quickly (many do once the cause of the bloom is taken care of), I wouldn't worry too much. If the bloom continues for a week, you have a major water quality problem. You should do a large water change in any event. It won't stop the bloom completely (bacteria multiply too quickly), but it will get oxygenated water into the tank. Different species of coral are hardier than others. What coral are we talking about?

i added a cats paw frag as far a flow i have 4 mp40s on the back side of the tank i can see alot of water movement on top the sand is barely moving as far as water quality what do you mean i checked all my parmeters
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
phosphate 0
salinity 1.025
alk 8.0
caclium 456
mag 1450

i used marco dry rock when i started this tank as far as filtration all i have is my skimmer and carbon still debating if im gonna go with a refugium or add marine pure to it i have a uv sterilizer but i yet to install it

Cat's Paw is fairly hardy. It should weather a short bacterial bloom. Sounds like the good bacteria in the tank just needs to become better established. Right now the bloom (unwanted bacteria) is out pacing the good. As mentioned, it will likely right itself in time. If you have a UV that is able to kill bacteria (not just algae), I would recommend that you hook it up. It will likely kick the pants of that bloom in 24 hours. Give us an update once you get the UV going :)

as fas as installing the uv what would you recommend hard plumbing or silicone tubing i have the reefer 750xxl space is very limited

That's a 200 gal, right? People here recommend a UV much larger than recommended by manufacturer usually; however, there are a some brands that sterilize better than others and come in different sizes. I wouldn't buy one just for this bacterial bloom. You said you had one already?

Are you feeding the bacteria anything? Do you have any clean up crew in there yet? Something is feeding your bac it would seem. Maybe a dead snail if you have CUC in there.

Bacterial blooms consume oxygen, but with that flow and a skimmer you should be fine. Let it roll.

still debating if im gonna go with a refugium or add marine pure to it

I absolutely swear by Marine Pure blocks. One of the best investments for keeping my tank cycled through thick and thin. I can even medicate my FOWLR 180 gal without losing cycle. :) The only drawback is they do crumble, so I put mine in nylon socks or another fine netting.

Me too. I have 1,536 cubic inches of the stuff in my systems.

I have nothing it only the cats paw frag should I put anything in it also I had marine pure in my previous tank but like u mentioned it really crumbles not a fan of it still debating on whether to do a refugium the water seems to be getting a little clearer as opposed to this morning

Any update on this? I'm going through a similar scenario and I'm trying to decide if I add a UV or just wait it out. Is your water clear now? Did you do anything?
