Hello

New to the hobby and hope I am posting in the correct spot. I think a clove polyp is a "colonial" polyps and therefore belongs in this forum. I just got a nice frag from my LFS of a clove polyp. He said it was nice in that it has an orange strip running down the leaves and a green center. The main clove is a lavender like standard.

QUESTION:

1) Will the polyps act like a plan and grow/reach to the top where the light is?

The reason I ask is that they are still new and are not really opening up, but they seem to be reaching towards the back of the tank. I am not sure if that is due to flow, but they are not in a high flow area so I don't think the flow is SO STRONG that they would be forced to bend back. I am HOPING that as they open up, they will start growing and reaching towards the top.

Thanks

Adam

I have a 120 gal full of the same cloves. They don't require a lot of light and react more to flow than light IMO. They will grow down to shady spots and up to high light spots as well. They seem to do equally well in both. If all parameters are good they will open up once they settle in. They love high flow and will spread quicker given strong current.

+1 on flow. Lots of flow and low to med light.
