My question is more out of curiosity than a concern. Picked up this clove polyp few weeks back and as expected it is growing. All of the growth are single heads per stalk except the one in the middle. You can see it has multiple small heads on a single stalk. It has also not gotten noticeably bigger in several weeks. Is this normal? Will it remain smaller indefinitely?

Possible but if it is something different then it attached itself to another stalk as it looks to be growing right out of one.

Clove Polyps grow like weeds when they're happy. If you want a picture of mine let me know.

I would agree that you have another coral in the middle there. Maybe fused to the clove polyps. Clove polyps do not usually grow with multiple polyps in one stalk.

Cool Bonus. Cannot wait to hear what it ends up being!!!

Another picture right after the lights came on this morning.

Looking at some pictures online you very well could be correct.
I tell you what this hobby really keeps a person on their toes.

Update. The additional stalk has shown zero growth over the last months. While the stalks on the clove have actually compacted and do not stretch out as far.

Bummer. My clovesare not overly happy too close to my toadstool and shaded. I cannot move them as it is the same rock. They will have to figure it out and grow out more. Could be why yours are not happy if that other coral was inhibiting growth a bit.
I guess wait and see. Thanks for the update.

What kind of lighting do you have? It sound like maybe they are getting too much. Cloves will get stalkier under light that is too intense (they’re trying to lower themselves, zoas will do the same thing), and Kenya trees will stagnate with too much light. It could be other issues (what are your parameters? and how much flow?), but it looks like lighting might be the issue.

I have the stock everything on the Fluval 13.5. Only upgrades are heater and powerhead. I did just move them back towards my arch a little. Maybe they need more light. Will move again. They are still growing.

Here is a better clearer picture. It is interesting.

Interesting. Looking at some online images it may be. I will say I just read that it is extremely slow growing which this one is. The stalk looks similar to what I am seeing online.
