I had a pair of clowns, one was bullied to the point where his fins getting destroyed all over, so I took back the bully clown. Left one clown alone for about 3 days. I went yesterday and got a smaller juvenile clown and they swam around yesterday happily. Overnight I’m not sure why but the small clown was at the top of the tank barely swimming. Like he was pooped out. Not sure if he was bullied by the other or just tired from swimming and swimming. Is it my flow that tired him or te other clown. I’ve separated him this morning into one of those hang over the rim clear baskets. Not sure where to go from here and how long I can keep him in there. Advice?

Here they are…

Not that I witnessed during the day yesterday. I work from home and the 10g is on my desk. Now it’s swimming in the little box happily it seems….

I’d monitor for now.
If I had to guess the first thing I’d say is it’s clownfish being clownfish.
Can you get some close up shots of the one in question just to screen for disease?

Most likely aggression. My two fought for almost 6 months. I would take one out at a time to let them chill and heal. Eventually they stopped fighting and paired up. Now they have been producing eggs every couple weeks for the last 12 years or so.

Oh that’s a tough one he is a wiggle worm lol! But here’s a few. I don’t see anything immediately, he is the small black one

My small one wouldn’t have a problem with the flow of my tank right? It’s a 10g with a Sicce 0.5. My other clown is fine with that

Nothing looks too off to me at the moment, any discoloration just looks stress related. Should be safe to return. The flow shouldn’t be a problem.
Let’s get some extra eyes on it though just to be safe:

Am I the only one who read this and thought.... "yeah we grew up together, fought all the time, dated in high school, now married 12 years" :p

Tough to see, but the clown outside the box has fin damage, not the one inside the box. Do the fish's clear parts of their fins look cloudy in real life, or is that just an artifact of the pictures?

The one outside the box was bullied by a larger clown who was taken back to LFS. She tore his fins I suspect. The clear part of the fin is torn but NO cloudiness, or patches of anything anywhere else. While the other clown was in here with him everyday his fins were more torn, I finally sent her back to LFS.

One of my clowns hangs out near the upper part of my tank a lot. I think he is hosting the temperature probes. If that was the only thing you noticed about the new clown, I would just keep monitoring it. Clowns can just be weird. Hopefully, that's all it is. Definitely reach out, if anything changes.

He was just hanging out at the top corner, not even upright, face down butt up at times. He was a little discolored, like stressed out. I deprecated for an hour this morning. Swimming now catching copepods around the tank with the other bigger clown. Guess I’ll just monitor….

Since I’m so new to saltwater…what would a cloudy fin be indicative of so I can watch for this? And treatment?

Fin discoloration could mean a number of things based on how it appears. If just the fin is discolored, it is often due to healing or stress. Not much you can do for that.
A patchy growth could be related to bacterial, fungal, or parasitic infection and different types require different treatments.

Just looking at the picture - #2 - the fish in the lower part of the picture (the lighter one) - to me has damaged fins. I think you already explained that this was the one that was bullied first. The other darker fish also has a section 'gone' from his tail. So I agree with Jay and Shark. I was curious - do you have hiding places in the tank - such that they can escape from eachother? Swimming at the top of the tank - assuming no disease - as I'm sure you're aware is a sign that its the only place the other fish will let it go. If you can, I would suggest you try putting them back together at a time when you can carefully watch who is doing what. Both fish, though, in general look like nice specimens. Good luck!!!!!

Thank you for this. I agree just fin damage as there are no patchy weird looking growths, I’m slightly obsessed at watching them lol. I’m dipping the food in Vitachem to help with fin regrowth. I believe I have enough hiding places but maybe I don’t?! I’ll attach video of my slice of ocean. Lights are ramping up at the moment.

Very nice tank!!!

I have an evo as well. My clown sleeps at the top between the weir and the return, on her side.
