I have had a very small pair of Photon Clownfish for about a month (just under).

I only have them and snails in my tank.

Saw my smaller Clown with some if his back fin missing today.

I was under the impression that they wouldn't be aggressive this young. Is that incorrect?

I am currently monitoring as much as I can to see if i can spot any aggression myself. Hoping to see from you all if that's what it looks like, though.

Here is a pic of the two of them:

A little far, but should show size difference.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Edit: if this is not the correct place to post, I will gladly move it!

Clowns can show any aggression at any age. They will start trying to pair and (sex each other out) which can get very ugly. Stay on top of the little guy and be prepared to move him! Hope this helped

Thanks!! I appreciate the reply! Now I know!

If it gets too bad you can by one of those floating breeder boxes ($8 or so) and separate them but they could still see each other. Give it about a week or two and then try and reintroduce them!

IME the fins grow back fairly quickly, however if you start seeing any type of body damage or fin infection then it is time to take action. Good luck!

Have you seen either of them shaking at each other?

My small one does towards my bigger one.. I think it’s a form submissive behaviour.

I picked up a random one from Amazon real quick for 10 bucks. Best to have it and not need it...

Thanks again!

I have not yet. Monitoring! I have watched YT videos of that, so I hope I can spot it easily.

Will keep an eye out and update! Really appreciate!

Looks like the result of aggression. As said by PeaceRiver, it will repair and grow back as long as it is not picked at. Melafix will help heal this quickly and eliminate any chance of tail rot

I see a freshwater product. Is that the same? Reviews show people have used it in saltwater.

There is a saltwater version ( available at PetSmart), but yes you can use the freshwater version.
