I just got a new clown fish and it dug its self a deep hole going under my live rock, is that normal? He started doing it then a day after his partner died. (The tank is just freshly set up) Any advice?

No I would not consider that new normal clown behavior.
Could it be water quality, elevated ammonia levels? Have you been feeding heavily?

New tank, I did more research to find out they sometimes do it as well when they don’t have another place to House. So they make a spot where they feel conforatable.

No that is not normal.

New clowns typically do not start cleaning or prepping. Clowns will clean away sand to make an area to sleep in, but in all my decades in the hobby with countless clowns I do not remember one clown digging a burrow under rock work.

This is new to me, keep us posted, I'll be following along on this new behavior of the clown fish.

Clowns are weird man. Had a clarki that bulldozed rocks in his tank

I would agree that it is not normal behavior. I've had many clowns host in a top corner of the tank, but never dig out under a rock.
