Hi everyone ,fish was doing just fine but I have noticed these white marks around its face and mouth. The fish constantly picks at copepods on the glass and was wondering if anyone has seen this? Any ideas?? I have been feeding 2 times a day with brine or mysis, occasionally throwing in some smaller sized pellets.

Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

@Fishy212 Clowns are extremely susceptible to Brooklynella and it can start looking like this. Did you quarantine and prophylactically treat for Brook?

I appreciate the information, was in Qt and did not show any signs of anything. Once introduced into the DT, it just kept going back and forth with its mouth / face against the glass and was picking at the pods. I figured because she was hungry. I feed them well. I am really hoping it’s just her rubbing against the glass, but I have tried to find more information and nothing seems to be coming up.

She still has speed and agility, still has a crazy appetite.

Royal gramma seems to be doing just fine

: / thanks

Has anyone else experienced this with a clown fish or any other fish?

Clowns don't always show signs initially due to their immune systems fighting off the disease, but then when stressed in a new environment, it starts to appear. It almost always seems to present on the head area first.

I've seen fish go back and forth against glass often, but not enough to rub their face scales off.

If you don't want to treat for Brook now, then watch it very closely. If that "white" starts to spread back its head and starts to look like a film on the fish, you will need to move fast...Brook kills clowns quickly.

I really hope I'm wrong.

Is it possible that the clown has been nosing around in an anemone in the DT and getting stung while trying to build up a resistance? The look of this irritation is not what I have normally seen from stings, but it is an alternate possibility.

Thanks a lot for your help. Very helpful info. I really hope so too, I will keep my fingers crossed.

Brook would be my first guess, but could be an infection, maybe he scraped up the face?

Is there excess mucus? Look like skin peeling?

No extra mucus, no skin peeling.. it honestly just looks like rubbing. I can’t say for sure :/

Then just keep an eye out for infection. Hopefully it will. Leave up on it's own. If you have ruby reef rally a bath might be helpful but I wouldnt run out and but it.

It looks like brook to me around the mouth. The white part of the fish is also extremely hard to see brook on. Do you have any other fish in your tank?

Its possible that the clown was parasite free in the QT and brook was already present in the DT and the clownfish picked it up once in DT. Brook can afflict any fish but is usually Asymptomatic in most fish with the exception of clowns/damsels.

It could also be irritation as mentioned above.
