Hi, I have a pair of clown fish that I've had for about six months now, maybe more. they've been happy and healthy but now one of them, the male I think, is acting strange. he keeps randomly shaking? I guess you could say. almost like a seizure. he acts fine in between these episodes. he hasn't been eating that well the last two days as well.
any help is appreciated thank you.

Oh and here's his pic

When he has his "seizure" is the female near by? This sounds like typical clown submissive behavior. I call it the clownfish shimmy. It's totally normal.

Oh that's a relief!! Thanks so much melypr!! Yes the female is right there when he does it and in fact she'll even take a shot at him when he does it.

So is this a prelude to spawning?

not necessarily. They do it while pairing up. Young clowns will do this long before they are old enough to breed. It's simply a dance where the male submits the female and she accepts him. She will continue to take shots at him and he will continue to shimmy in response. As long as she isn't taking chunks out of his fins and he is allowed to eat, then they will be fine together. Also, older clowns will do this even after they have been paired for several years, but less often.
