I bought these from Petco because they had a sale... I was told they are saddle back clowns, then someone said they are matron closwns???

Does anyone know what they really are??

Also are they a pair? They sleep together they protect each other... will they lay eggs???

Just wondering thanks - Andrew

What you've got are ocellaris, saddleback is a different species of clownfish. Here's a pic for reference.

He could have meant mocha, which they could very well be. Mocha clowns are basically the result of a pairing between a black and regular ocellaris. How big are they right now? As long as you have one that is smaller or they are both still young then they shouldn't have any issues pairing up. It may still be another year or two before you see eggs though :). Also please keep a sharp eye out for any odd behavior or signs of sickness as chain stores are full of all kinds of disease and parasites.

You've got yourself a pair of Darwin or black ocelaris clowns. This is a naturally occurring morph of the ocelaris species and might one day gets is own scientific name. They are found in the wild near the Darwin cost of Australia. Most clownfish are tank bred now. If they constantly swim together, sleep side by side and are pretty much always near one another, I would say they have already paired. The female would be the larger one. I have a fully grown pair of Darwins as well. The female is 3" and the male is just a bit smaller.
