Hi
my clownfish has stopped eating for two days now he my only fish tank my damsel recently got attack by a birstleworm in his hole but in the last to days i have gone from a canister to a hob filter i transfered the media over also i have had a rework of the rock work.

my clown fish looks physically healthy swimming fine his breathing rate has slightly increased i have watched this over the two days and it hasn't got worse
my levels
ph 8.0
ammonia 0-0.25 according to the api test kit
nitrites of the scale im doing more water changes and leaving light off longer to stop algae grow and to hopefully reduce nitrates thats why i have change the canister
salinity 1.026 im trying to get an ro unit but i just use dechlorinated tap water right now
temp 78
i just have one clownfish in a 15 gallon the tank is a year old and i did cycle it fishless Before add fish

my guess is that changing the Filter which creates Different flow and moving the rocks Has caused stress
then i don't know if nitrates have an effect on the clown
if you have any advice or guidance pls let me know
many thanks

quick Edit : i have pointed my wavemaker to the surface to help with oxygen exchange if thats the issue

How old is the tank? You should not be having any nitrites if a tank is properly cycled. While nitrites aren’t as toxic in saltwater the presence points out you may have had an ammonia spike which could cause fish to struggle breathing and loss of appetite.

What dechlorinator do you use? It’s unusual to have such low ammonia on an api test kit when using prime, amquel etc.

Try using garlic additives to your food. This will hopefully entice your fish to eat .. Good luck

My tank is 1 and half years old. I made a mistake typing it my nitrites are at 0
It’s the nitrates that are off the scale

for dechlorinatir I use tetra aqua safe

@Fishy212 i have got some garlic brime shrimp today and put a cube in the tank and my clownfish went nuts over it my guess he got bored of the same old pellets so i have put some more on order
thanks for the help and advice guys

That's great to hear!! Keep up with your feedings and observe. A fish not eating is generally the first red flag to look out for when dealing with disease or bacterial infection. Glad its okay

Seems to me like your rework of the rockwork likely stirred up a whole lot of crud. If your nitrites are off the charts then it may indicate an ammonia spike that's now coming down. This would have induced a lot of stress on the fish. Get a large water change done to try to help correct your parameters.
The garlic is good for now as it will help the clown start feeding again, but I'd try to get it back onto normal food when you can

Cool thank you i did a 40% water change yesterday night today the clown has been alot more happier more swimming around and his breathing rate has considerably dropped alot which is good cause he looked like he was gasping a bit i have pointed my wavemaker at the surface to get more oxygen in as a precaution also i have some bacterial treatment on hand if i need any

the reason i removed this bit of rock and rescaped beacuse that was the rock the bristleworms was on so hopefully its out the tank

as i only have a clownfish and hermit in my display tank if i need to treat for bacterial should i just dose the display tank as i don't have any other stand alone saltwater tanks and im really not planning of adding any more stock for a while and to be honest i might just leave the one clown in the 15 gallon as the tank is already quiet small so i want to stay a way from over stocking
many thanks
