so my clown fish are trying to host my corals, they are well hosting the leather cup and zoas

but i noticed black spots on them lately, I have not introduced any other fish or corals for months.

I think I know which corals is the stinger. see image. the tentacles went out when the clown fish were around.

what do you think?

that looks like a mouth on the coral expelling something. That's not a sweeper tentacle. Usually after a bit of time corals will tolerate the clowns with no issues.

Is the coral under a lot of light?

Are either NO3 or PO3 (or both) around zero?

Expelling their dino's can be a precursor to bleaching. (Actually, it's the act of bleaching.)

It would be fun if you could get a sample of that to get pics under the scope.

If those nutrient levels are zero'ish, you'll need to make some adjustments, so let us know!

po3 is 0. no3 is 2. used salifert test kits.
light has been the same for months. dont know exactly the wattage but they are Actinic leds, 8 hours a day. had this coral for 4 months now.

temprature is kept at 78.8-81 degrees. kh is constant 7+, salinity might vary from 1.024 to 1.026 since i use cooling fans for cooling.

i will check tomorrow for a photo as lights are out now.

It's the PO4 more than likely.....absence of it can make photosynthesis intolerable...to the coral as well as the dino's.

I'd give the lights a day's worth of rest – he'll get a break while you figure it out and it won't bother anyone else.

How old is the tank?

What is your filtration like? (Cut it back to just protein skimming.)

What lights are you using? (Make and model.) And how high are they mounted from the water?

What's the temperature like without fans? You can safely run a tank MUCH warmer than 78ºF – especially if it also give you a more stable salinity. (≤85ºF is safe IMO....under halides my system ran great at about 83ºF, but it was very stable.)

What ATO are you using?

Depending on all these answers, I may end up telling you do dose some PO4.....such as Seachem's and Brightwell's offerings. Could be a call for NO3 as well.

Maybe line up a source for those, but don't pull the trigger yet.

i sometimes run a skimmer, but usually do waterchanges and have some seaweed(forgot the name). also have a canister filter with live rock, nothing else.

no ATO, i top it up manually, I was always told to keep phosphates and nitrates low, my montipora is fine also the leathers, zoas, palys, duncans all seem fine.

i try ti keep it under 83, will most probably have to keep it at 83 when summer hits more over here (Mediterranean island with 104 degrees days)
