Hello, I just bought an anemone from my LFS. Im just wondering, I have 4 clown fish in my reef and none of them host the anemone. Any idea guys?

Sometimes they do sometimes they don’t. There are videos on YouTube on how to train them to host it.

I have two tank raised regular Ocellaris Clowns. They host anything that even resembles an Anemone. I had a big RBTA but it died in my Vortech after free floating one night. Now my clowns live happily in my dozen heads of Duncan Corals. They killed my Aussie Torch coral after beating the hell out of it.

Seriously want to know what worked though, and trust me, it sounds stupid. I put pictures of clowns in Anemones all around taped to the glass. I even put a long video I found on YouTube of clowns in Anemones on my iPhone and leaned it against the glass for hours. Next morning, they were living in the Anemone, not even kidding.

when i checked I think I got a bad anemone. its called a condi

You have two clowns too many, IMO. Seriously though, how big is your tank and what type of clowns? What type of Anemone did you buy?

I have a 40 gallon breeder with those clowns. ocellaris 1 1/2" each

My clowns also prefer to host my Duncan or frogspawn as well.

Condis won't host a clownfish, you're right. They look cool. You might want to return it. If you end up buying a Bubble Tip, they can actually do battle chemically in the tank.

good thing i know the guys at my LFS. will ask for the one you mentioned. thanks!

Can usually pick up a decent size Rose Bubble Tip for around 50 bucks. I have had a couple green bubble tips with pink tips, those are really cool and typically can find them for a little less.

Man that is cheap if it's $50. stores around here sells it for $80 and up for a 2" diameter size

The method I used, Don't Laugh!, is I got a small uv flashlight, like the ones that go on your key chain, and placed it on the RBTA for a couple of weeks. One morning I woke to do my normal head count and couldn't find my clowns, they were imbedded in the RBTA. I'm guessing them seeing the RBTA at night lit in the uv stirred up their curiosity.
They stayed there and would spawn 2-3x month. Maybe worth a try. I had the hardiest time getting them out of my Duncans:confused::confused:

Ok after your first thread and now this, I apologize in advance, but I have to be blunt here for the sake of the creatures you're purchasing.

This isn't a hobby you can just run out, buy what you want, toss it in a tank and hope. You REALLY NEED to do at least some research ahead of time. 4 clowns in a 40 breeder is going to be a disaster eventually regardless, as you discovered, they will never host your Condy, and if you get a BTA which your tank and your reefing skills is simply not ready for yet you're either going to kill it or if you do keep it alive and manage to get one or a few of the clowns into it, you're just going to accelerate the death process that is soon to go down in your tank regardless as somebody becomes the female and establishes dominance.

My clowns and the anemone were on the different ends of the tank. Took almost an year before they met each other. It was actually the anemone decided to move towards the clowns. And they lived happily ever after...
