sadly my clown fish jumped out my tank and I didn’t notice until it was feeding time and the female didn’t want to come eat. The pair was a Ocellaris. Do I get a Ocellaris or can I get a different one. However I do have a six line. The female was left behind.

Thats a pretty tough thing to discover. I am sorry to hear it.

As for replacing, you will want to stick with the ocellaris, though I believe most of the designer clowns (Picasso, black storms, etc...) are actually ocellaris. Avoid maroon clowns, if I’m not mistaken.

The trick will be getting a juvenile, one that is smaller than the female in your tank. That should ensure the new fish becomes a male.

Pairing may not be immediate, and the female may be pretty “aggressive” toward the newcomer. It is mostly just establishing dominance and expecting the smaller fish to submit in an acceptable way. Which is typically having a seizure while showing it’s belly to the larger fish, from what I’ve read (and seen a bit of when I paired my clowns)

I am again sorry it happened, but hope some of this may be helpful!

So I wouldn’t be able to get a designer one to pair up with it? Should I just get one like I had?

I think most of the designer ones would be fine.

I’ve read a bit about, and asked the LFS once. And pretty sure like 95% of the designer colored clowns would be okay. I would venture a guess that what ever your favorite is, will work.

That being said, I just have 2 pretty basic ocellaris clowns. So may want to wait for somebody who has a mixed pair for confirmation.

Quick note I meant to mention.

The designer clowns are typically ocellaris clowns. They have just been bred to show off different genetic mutations.
