Just wondered if anyone has had any experience with this type of frogfish. I know Mr. Ugly keeps some...

The whole reason i am asking this is because i have one at my store for 35$ and hes only about 1 inch to 1 onch and a quarter. And he is eating live and some krill believe it or not. I am thinking about keeping him in the 20g long i am setting up until i buy a tank just for him.

Thanks Steve :)

Oh yeah and heres a pic: (not mine)

$35 is a heck of a deal......Buy him and send him to me!......I have been looking for one for a better price then I can find on-line......They are awsome fish but can eat anything 3-4 times there size.....

awesome fish...I kept one in a 12 G nano for about 2 years then I sold him for $95.Looked exactly like the pic.Lots of fun feeding.

I agree with Vamp he would be fine in a prop system....or in my nano;)

Hey Az,

Do you want one? I can get you one in the next coming 2-4 weeks possibly. I go down to the wholesaler almost everyweek(if i dont have homework :) ). I could look around for a frog if you want.....

We could do a trade or something...

Nope, not a wartfin. They have black spots on their fins.
Here's mine:

I paid a ton of $$$ for that one, I hear the other species are less. $35 sounds like a fantastic price!

Yea maybe we can so something like that.....You have pumped your collection in the last few months so I don't know what I got that you might like but that is a good idea.....Keep me posted.....or pm with what you are looking for.....

Sounds good. My collection isnt that great but yeah i will keep you posted..:)

On second thought we do have a large 4 inch red frogfish. I dont know the specific name but i can check here right quick if your interested....if not what size are you looking for?

Steve

i tried looking up wartfin but nothing came up, maybe yours has a different name....im researching them right now so i will keep an eye out...:)

One about your size if possiable, I would like to get it in a trainable size.....Nothing bigger then 2-3 inches. Once you get an idea of what you want let's take it to PMs this way your thread don't get hi-jacked......

Beautiful maculatus.

20g should be fine. They don't like excess current (<10X)

Pufferpunk, wartskins can have dots/circles or not, same species, both beautiful.

I have a small little one that isn't doing so well,
but he's on meds so we'll see.

Hey uberfugu,

What are some diseases in frogfish? Do they get ill just like any other fish or what?

By the way, i wont be picking the little guy up just yet. The soonest i would get him would be by next friday or saturday.

Steve :)

Frogfishes are affected by most of the diseases that other marine
fishes get.

Cryptocaryon and Amyloodinium are common and,
because of the angler's cryptic nature, sometimes difficult to
detect.

Mycobacterium and Vibrio infections often bloom under stressful
conditions (newly imported or bad water Q).

Frogfishes seem to have a mediocre response to medication so
I recommend a full 4 week quarantine.

Even the great Dr. Pietsch (co-author of Frogfishes of the World)
says that he does not have much luck keeping them alive beyond
a year.
