Just in the last few days we picked up a Duncan frag at the lfs. Yesterday we added a small Percula clown. Is it safe for the Duncan & the clown if the clown has decided to host it? The Duncan is a little unsure whether it likes all this loving. :)

It can be very rough on the Duncan for it to host the clown (the Duncan hosts the clown not the other way around). They do this all the time in the aquarium with minimal harm. I have clowns in my tank with a frogspawn and the clowns don't mess with the frogspawn at all.

If the clown starts to mess with it just keep an eye on the Duncan to make sure it isn't beat to much.

After my 18"+ Derasa clam died, my clown fish moved into the duncans

LOL looks like a picture out of my aquarium. My clown doesn't cause any problems with the duncan.

Ha, thats probably because they are your duncans. I got 3 heads from you about a year or so ago at a swap.

I have never seen a duncan colony that big.. Looks awsome nice job.. I have one head i got about a month and a half ago and i just noticed a new head starting to sprout. I hope one day it will look like yours

Thank you. I target fed them when I first got them to make sure they got a good start. But I have not target fed them in a long, long time. They just get plenty of flow, some food carried in from the flow, and not much light.

I started with 3 heads, and it has dozens of heads now. Probably about softball size colony.

Thanks for the terminology tutorial C.
I've seen Duncans in sandbeds and wedged into lr. Which do ya'll prefer (if you have a preference) and why? Are some corals better suited for one or the other?

I put my frogspawn in the rock. I have my dendros in the rock as well.

My clowns have hosted a big piece of macro algae, frogspawn and currently the back left corner of my tank! None of which have been bothered by them. They haven't touched the Duncan's yet. I keep my Duncan's and Frogspawns around the bottom middle of the rock work which is around 24" from halides.

before it got in focus i thought it was just another big foot video! haha. I have 2 duncans and never had that happen w/ clowns...thats creepy and hilarious! was that a regular thing???

Yep. He did it pretty regularly to his favorite side of the duncan, but it took me a while to catch it on the camera. A couple of heads have permanently kinky tentacles as a result. Poor guy passed away last month.

My male clown used to be hosted by my duncan when the female wouldn't let him in the anemone. It's pretty cute to watch.

Here is another picture for you guys. They have both hosted this duncan for years.

I only have the Duncan frag for now, but I'm feeding it and the two small heads on both sides of the main one are slowly growing. Everytime I walked past the aquarium I would see the clown belly rubbing the Duncan. It is staying open more to. I guess its getting used to the love.
