I have a clown currently in QT, been in qt for 6 days, dosing the third cupramine this evening. I have not got him to eat. He won’t even consider mysis, some pellets he tries and spits. I had a clown before this that also didn’t eat for around 8 days and unfortunatley didn’t make it. Any tips? he doesn’t seem to have any external parasites from what i can see. in terms of internal treatment i have Neoplex on hand as well as Metroplex. any tips? thanks guys

I'm wondering - you said you dosed Cupramine for the third time? That product needs to be dosed accurately at 0.50 ppm. Have you tested the water for copper? If so, what test kit are you using and what is the reading?

Can you post a video of the fish so I can judge its respiration rate?
What is the ammonia level in the tank?
Any other fish in with it? If so, how are they doing?

Jay

Hi Jay, I am using SeaChems Multi-test copper, the fish wasn't eating for the first couple of days of observation as well, The fish is alone and I have not done any testing because I do a 50% change every 2 days and dose every 2 days as cupramine instructions indicate, Will do the copper test in a moment

I cant tell the exact number, but it is 100% over 0.50 ppm going to do a waterchange right now

Do you think I should take a break from the copper?

Do you think I should take a break from the copper?

No - but you need to be sure you that you haven't overdosed the copper. Taking a break allows any protozoan parasites to continue their infection.

What were they being treated for.
Meds may depress appetite which becomes counterproductive.

Not being treated for anything just following Jays QT Process
Interesting. For the few times I’ve ever used a copper treatment, appetite diminished, some more than others.

I’ve never treated any fish unless I had a reason to do so.
I simply feed well for 30 days and watch very carefully.

If the fish eats day 1 and everyday for 30, and displays no unusual behavior in all 30 days, I use nothing on them.

I won’t hestitate to treat any sick fish, but I need a reason, then only applying the specific treatment for my diagnosis.

Just curious. Everyone has their own way.

Do you know what the actual copper reading is now?

I ended up changing all the water because he really hasn't shown any signs of external parasites so Im hoping no copper can get him to eat, still nothing

I doubt that copper was the root issue here. A video would really help, you should also check your copier test to confirm where your tank is actually at.

Respiration seems to have ramped up a little bit and copper is at a 0

He just ate a pellet split in half first thing i have every been able to get him to eat, now I see as you can see in that video that there seems to be some sort of small white dot off of his gill. would that be a fluke?

I saw a brief glimpse of the white thing, probably an injury, too large to be a fluke.

What other foods have you tried on him?

Mysis and pellets, no luck with mysis but he just ate a pellet about 20 minutes ago for the first time since I've had him so that's progress

Keep cutting the pellets. Did you try cutting the mysis into smaller pieces also?

I have not no, I generally have my mysis sucked into a syringe, would I just chop while frozen in cubes and then defrost?
