Hi All,
I have a small clown, medium clown and lawnmower blenny in a 10g QT right now.

All three have been in there 17 days. The smaller clown since day one has had what looks like a little mucous between his head and top fin. It has not gotten much worse, but there is now a white patch above his eye for the past few days. He has been eating and active.

On days 6 & 8, I put in a dose of General Cure. I freaked out on Ammonia a bit and did a 25% water change between doses though.

Last night, after looking at the disease section of the forum, I freaked out again. This time I added a dose of Furan-2.

Should I continue the Furan-2 per instructions, or is there a better option?

Sorry for no pic, I know it is helpful, but my camera phone sucks and he will not hold still.

It is possible that your clown has Brooklynella. A picture would be helpful in everyone helping you figure out what exactly is going on. If it is in fact Brooklynella then a formalin treatment is the only cure. If you cant get a picture you can look it up also and see if it looks like that the case.

I also forgot, the clowns tail has a little chunk out of the end where it is pretty much translucent. I noticed this once I got him home, but it has not gotten worse from what I could tell.

Thanks for the response. That is what I fear as it does look like the very early stages, but would Brook move faster?

I will try to get a picture tonight, but again, my photography skills are very lacking.

If you cannot get a good picture, take a video, put on youtube and then link it to here. Videos are great for fish that will not sit still lol.

OK, I will try my best for pics or video tonight.

Seems like treatment for brook = FW dip + Ruby Reef Rally bath, then into sterile QT. Then Metro for 14 days. Is that right? I assume I should do the RRR bath for the other fish in QT as well, but not at the same time.

I will have to order both RRR and Metro, but I do still have General Cure which has Metro in it. Should I just use that, dose once, wait 5-7 days, dose again?

Freshwater dip will provide immediate relief if it is brook, and also confirm or rule out flukes.

RRR is fine to do all three. I’ve done 3 small fish at a time in a 5-gallon bucket. Just make sure the water is temp-controlled and well-aerated both before and during the bath. You’ll want to transfer to a sterile QT after the bath, with metroplex pre-dosed at 2 scoops per 10 gallons.

I think brook would be possibility, and the couple General cure doses you’ve added already might have knocked it back some, but not enough to eradicate.

Another possibility is flukes/secondary infection. If they did have flukes initially, would have needed the general cure doses 5-7 days apart to eliminate them.

Pictures would definitely help, when you get a chance :)

He definitely looks worse by the time I got home. It looks like Brook to me. He is still eating and swimming like normal though.

I just did a FW dip on him for 5 minutes. I did not see anything that looked to me like flukes left in the container, but I do not really know.

I also ordered Metro, and RRR today so those should be in within the next few days. In the mean time my plan is:

1. Continue Furan-2 ????
2. Start General Cure again
3. Get a 2nd sterile 10G setup (to move all 3 into after RRR bath)
4. After moving to new QT, dose 2 scoops of Metro every 48 hours + can add GC to food OR add General Cure to water if you think there are flukes in the pic ????

Sorry for the bad pics and cloudy water. I think the Furan tints the water.

Looking not great. After 16 days of no change, throughout today it has progressed.

Does this seem like a good plan?

Well, I have to travel this week, so I gave all 3 a 90 min RRR bath, then put them in a sterile QT with general cure.
Lil clown is really looking better, but LMB is not happy.

Sure hope nothing happens so the wife doesnt freak out!
