Clown in QT with "death spins"

Good morning,

my male ocellaris clown, which I have had for about a year started swimming upside-down and spinning in my display a few days ago and was being attacked pretty fiercely by the female so I was able to pull him out and but him in my 20g QT. I thought maybe it was a bacterial infection so I dosed Kanaflex in the tank and metroplex the day after.

So currently here is what I have done:

Kanaflex tank- currently on day 3 (put second does in yesterday)
Metroplex tank - currently on day 2 (second does goes in tonight)

The clown is not eating (Its been at least 4 days since he ate) and is swimming at the top of the tank upside-down mostly. He is hanging on but any suggestions would be appreciated.

Breathing appears labored. I would be thinking that it suffered some internal injuries from the "fierce" attack by the female.

Can't imaging what else can be done except isolate it (which you've correctly done) and hope for the best.

thank you. I was thinking the same thing (internal damage). I have been leaving him alone for the most part but the non eating thing has me a bit worried.

When I have fish that are not eating and suspecting an internal bacterial infection, I've had good results using either Furan2 or NFG powder in a QT.

i have furan2 on hand, I will add that to the tank as well. I believe from what I have read that I can use all 3 meds at the same time without issue

Yes. All three are called the "trifecta" and work pretty well treating both internal and external bacterial infections. Best of luck with your fish.

thank you, I just dosed the furan2. I just hope he starts eating soon because it’s been like 4 days since I have seen him eat

Things are not looking good, I am not sure I can do much more for this poor guy, he just started doing this. Any ideas?

so we still have a fighter!!!

Lowered temp down to about 71ish and salinity down to about 1.21 at the moment. It seems like it might be a swim bladder issue because he is trying to swim but really can't "right" himself and when he stops struggling he just goes upside down.

Any more suggestions? Still isn't eating and its almost a week since he ate but I will continue to try and temp him.

I found this which @Big G posted from @Humblefish for swim bladder issues. Since the clown isn't eating I think I have done what I can do by treating with Kanaplex, Metroplex and Furan-2. Also hopefully by lowering the temp and salinity I am buying this guy more time to hopefully let the Kanaplex work.

This kinda makes sense now because the clown wasn't showing any signs of issues in the display and I put all my fish through QT so if he got constipated which lead to swim bladder issue thats why he was having so many issues in the display. and once that happened the female and my ****** midas blenny started attacking him:mad:

Swim Bladder Disorder/fish constipation:

Symptoms - Both of these have identical symptoms, but fish with swim bladder disorder generally do not survive. So your best bet is to treat for constipation and hope for the best. The fish will swim erratically, and appear to have difficulty maintaining its equilibrium. It may appear buoyant at the surface of the water, sometimes swimming in circles.

Treatment options - Feed 1 or 2 peeled boiled green peas (same kind you & I eat). Repeat daily even if the fish’s condition improves. The fiber contained in the peas will help “push things out.” If dealing with a fish that refuses to eat, you can try Epsom salt (as a laxative) or an antibiotic such as Kanamycin (aka Seachem Kanaplex) that lists diarrhea as a possible side effect.
