I got a clown about a week ago and he doesn’t appear to be eating. I feed rods original blend. I also tried some plain mysis mixed in. I turn off all pumps for an hour and then turn on my wavemakers for another hour before turning on my return pump. He will suck in the food then spit it back out. I’ve never seen this behavior. He looks healthy, but just worries he’s not eating.

Try adding some garlic to the food, that will usually help with the sucking it in and spitting out issue. At least it's somewhat interested in food, that's better than not poking at anything.

Do you know what they fed it at the LFS? That would be where I would start by trying to give it something it's familiar with. It's also just been introduced to your tank so it may take some time before it starts eating like the bottomless pits most clownfish are haha

In regards to the garlic, just fresh pressed garlic, one clove?

The food might be too big, my clowns did the same, only it was pellet food. I got some smaller pellets and they ate it just fine.

if you got a tank raised clown they sometimes grow up eating pellets. I got some new clowns last week and they only ate pellets at first. I mixed pellets with frozen and they now eat frozen as well.

Mine spit out frozen Mysis, suck up PE Mysis pellets. When I was using my home made frozen they ate it, but the smaller pieces. I think the Mysis was too big, even tho they are full grown ~3" Ocelaris.

Bought some pellet food from the fish store I got him from (what he was eating) and the clown is now eating a bit. They guy at the LFS said most captive bred clowns now only eat pellet food since that is what they were raised on
