i have a pair of clowns and a starry blenny never any problems.my powder brown does chase the starry around from time to time but clowns never bothered him and blenny never bothers the clowns

Awesome, how big of a tank? The clowns in the tank first the. The blenny or blenny first ?

Thank you for the fast reply

120g tank.the blenny was in the tank first then the clowns but i dont think it matters which is first.what type of clowns?

Saddleback... They had a tank mate for the day or so the lfs had them and they were fine in the time i saw them there i know thay doesnt mean much but at least i know they have seen other fish

i have never had saddleback but i think you should have no problem keeping them together.

hope i didnt do the typical newbie idea and add another fish to quick.
I decided to pickup the blenny i have been checking out at my LFS, have been a great help never pressured to buy and she invited me to watch feeding time with the blenny i have been talking to her about. he ate fine and was being a blenny.
Now i know im not a seasoned marine guy but was a reptile guy for awhile and some freshwater so i completely understand that new animals need time to get used to there new home and i think im just being a nervous newb but the blenny has been acting out of the norm.
After he acclimating and going into the tank he swam around a bit. The clowns were watching close but never attacked or even chased but they just stayed on him like a hawk.
Blenny went under a couple rocks and then ended up between the heater and glass in top corner all night.

This morning i fed the clowns and tapped on the water with my finger near the heater and he slowly came out and swam like a blenny all around. I fed the tank some froze. Mysis shrimp and he went for a couple pieces. For most of the day hes been in the bottom corner but comes out and swims around explores from time to time but again hes back im the corner

Just wondering what are signs i really should look out for instead of just being nervous about every unusual movement with a new fish? Just worried about stress and giving ich or something from it

If you properly acclimated him I am sure he will be fine. I have a lawnmower blenny (which Is just a lighter colored starry for the most part) in my 29 cube with a pair of ocellaris clowns and they all get along great. It's fun to watch the blenny get aggravated with the clowns when they get too close to him. They have never fought but you can see his aggravation. It's comical, like a grumpy old man being pestered by his neighbors children.

I was going to post a update , thanks for the reply

So far on day 4 of having blenny in the tank he is slowly getting used to the new home. His favorite spot currently is behind the top half of the heater. Im thinking about redoing my rocks so it might help all of the fish out with territory , i had a sudden nitrite reading and nitrates were little higher than normal so i did a PWC and added normal dose of prime to the new water and so far the blenny has been out a lot more and seems to be eating . I added the prime just for peace of mind and health of the livestock in case my nitrates went really out of wack least til i could do a big WC which i wouldnt be able to til late tonight or tomorrow because of work.
These blennys really have a personality :) he was sitting waiting by the front rocks for food when i walked up to the tank on way to work this morning.

I have a 29 gallon nano with two regular ocil and one black & white (probably a bad idea but it's working out). I had them with a black comb tooth blenny and they were fine. Now I have them with a lawnmower blenny and they all still get along just fine despite the small tank size. It took a few days for the blenny (named "Nom Nom" after an internet meme because of the way he eats algae) to get comfortable but now he zips around, perches on rocks, lays on the sand and hangs out in his castle window when he needs some alone time. Such an awesome fish! I love how he lays around! Fish are known for swimming, but not blennies. They're so cute just chilling out! Maybe give him a place to "hide" when he needs a time out from the constant activity of the clowns. Since my tank is a FOWLR I have an awesome sunken castle for him to chill in.

The one fish that I had that seemed quite annoyed with the high energy of the clowns was my high fin cardinal. He just wanted to hover peacefully but the clowns were constantly trying to play with him. I swear I could see annoyance on his face! He's now in another, larger tank and quite happy with the clowns in there.

It took a good month for mine to get comfortable enough to swim in the open water. I though he was just a hider, but now he cruises all over the tank when he's not chilling on a rock or my toadstool coral!
Also a funny thing about the clowns. I had the blenny for a month or so before I introduced two onyx clowns. The first day, the blenny would randomly dart at the pair, sometimes attacking from a couple feet away! After that first day no more attacks, but blenny would still shoot toward them occasionally and kind of hover for a bit, letting them know he's still got an eye on them! Now they're all cool, and pretty much couldn't care less about each other.

Very cool this thread keeps going.....

Now a few weeks have passed he is doing great so far. The clowns are always on the chase with each other and blenny just swims and then takes a rock for a bit just watching and looking around. The bigger of my clowns and the blenny sometimes dart to eAch other but nothing ever comes out of it happening.

Now when i walk over to the tank after awhile they all come up for food. The blenny will come to my hand when im doing something on the tank.... He took a algae flake from my hand the other day.

Im going to be doing a lot of new stuff with the tank over the next few weeks ill get some pics of the blenny and crew and share
