hi y’all!

does anyone have an odd couple? This baby pink skunk won’t leave the maroon clown’s side. He is extremely attached! He even swims attached to his side like baby sharks do. It’s super cute but a little odd!

PS: don’t mind the dirty water; I had just finished cleaning off the heater to place in a fresh bucket (quarantined fish) and noticed how cute these two were before I moved them.

very cool if they are actually a pair, I have a wild caught percula and a storm clownfish (ocellaris) that have been breeding for years but maroons are way more picky.
These guys look like they are still in a bucket so im guessing they are being acclimated or in qt?

I am dealing with velvet. They’ve been in there for 5 weeks. One more week!

GL with the clowns but keep a close eye on them as you might need to separate them. Maroons are notorious for turning on their own mates when they get older and killing them, more of a chance with a different species. I used to keep maroons but I couldnt deal with getting my hand bit everytime i put it into the tank (didnt hurt just like a jump scare). Beautiful fish but little a--holes lol

Lol I know what you mean! I had two yellow tail damsels. Everytime I would put my hand in the tank, he would go for me. I had to get rid of them. Completely ******S! Like you said, it doesn’t hurt but it surprises u. I’ve had this clown for a good 5 months, he’s pretty docile. He gets along especially with the flame Angel I have. I think I just got lucky but I’ll still keep a close eye!!

my friend and I had a real interesting conversation yesterday about the maroon clowns. We came to the conclusion that the ones that are a really deep deep brown/maroon are extremely mean and aggressive and the ones that are more on the bright orange side with the orange outlines are more docile. He has two of them and he says the one that's darker is the evil one. I found it interesting because the other day when I went to the store, they had a bunch of them. And the ones that were trying to boss everyone around were the super dark ones. You can tell they just look more evil. And the orange ones were the shier ones. Now, don't quote me on this lol but it did seem that way! The one I have is a bright orange/ slight maroon and has the light orange outlines on his fins. He's super sweet!

That is more likely because of age, as maroons age they become darker. Usually the dominant female in a pair becomes darker faster as well from what I have seen

You’re right. I just read that females are the ones that get darker and males tend to keep their lighter orange. We’ll, I hope mines a male Lol

yours is larger than the skunk clownfish so it will turn into a female, that is how they work. Its called sequential hermaphroditism
