My clown has decided to host my frogspawn but the FS is NOT happy. Not at all. Tentacles are either completely retracted or don’t come out all the way. Clown doesn’t seem to notice or care. Any tips? I’m tempted to get my tank ready for a BTA. But not sure.

BTAs aren’t a for sure host. Usually you can’t get the clowns to stop. Egg crate jail always works.

my clowns are also doing this...ive tried to move the frogspawn in different areas in the tank, nothing... also have 2 RBTA in there and they dont want anything to do with them...

What!? They still prefer the FS. Goodness. Have you noticed your FS looking less healither?

the one head is getting better, the other head is still hiding, weird thing is the female clown was sucking on the tentacles, i think she was trying to become immune to the stinging the frogspawn was giving it... i think this because for a week or two the clowns mouth was swollen but she was still going at it... like i said i tried moving it all over the place...

I noticed mine was nipping at the tips as well. I’m wondering if I should point my wavemaker at it to push the clown away.

i would be worried about too much power and tearing the tentacles or ticking it off more... that was my dilemma...i figured to play the waiting game and see if the frogspawn will just accept them... problem is with mine the clownfish are my oldest & one of my favorite fish in my tank, i cant just take them out and i dont have anywhere to place the frogspawn in the meantime.

Update: I went to my LFS. Went to look at nems. Wasn’t going to get one. I made friends with the owner a long time ago. Talked to the owner about my clowns bothering the frogspawn. He gave me a sebae nem for free. He said I was helping him out so I couldn’t say no. They have tanks loaded with nems together of different types. Like I suspected, clowns have left the nem alone so far.

Sorry but that sebae is very bleached and nems don’t always or will never host clowns.

This isn’t under aquarium lighting. This was taken when the sun just started peaking through the window before my lights kicked on. It’s pretty healthy actually. But free nonetheless. If I can keep him healthy, I’ll be happy.

Did the your clown host the sebae? What would be some good nem clown fish be attractive to?

Clowns are creatures of habit. You may have better luck if you can temporarily remove the hammer. Your chances would be even better if you can then get the anemone to stay where the hammer was, even if it's just temporary...

Must be a weak Frogspawn? Mine has doubled in size since my clowns are hosting in it. Maybe try buying a second frogspawn or hybrid

I had clowns hosting a frogspawn on my previous tank, without problems for the clown or the frogspawn. The frogspawn was larger than yours, though. Comparable to the one in @alton picture. If the frogspawn eventually opens and accepts the clown, I would leave him alone. I am sure somebody succeeded to have a sebae anemone host a clown, but, generally speaking, they don't. As I understand sebae anemone stings a lot more than other species. On the other hand, those pink tipped white tentacles are beautiful and the creature is very hardy. As for the suckling on the anemone or frogspawn tips most of my clown did that. I do not know why they do that but my interpretation was that they are soothing the anemone to persuade it to stay open.

Frogspawn is ok now. It just had to adjust to the new addition. My other clown is the montispora. Have no idea why it likes the monti. I guess because it’s kind of shaped like a bowl.
