So my lfs had some ex small clown tang I’m talking 1.5”. I picked one up and put him in a qt observation tank. Wondering if anyone has had one this small and if there any tips you might have for me. Currently has pecked at a mysis shrimp that I fed after acclamation. Really want to fatten him up for a few mths before thinking of adding to 210 display.

Make sure he always has something to graze on, especially at such a small size. They have a very high metabolism and in order to keep him fat and growing healthy he will need a lot of food. If you can manage, feed him 5-6 small feedings throughout the day instead of just one or two normal sized ones. Of course you should also make sure to give him the veggies that all tangs need :)

Yeah I’m gonna get him a veggie clip today as well as get him Mysis soaked in seldom at least twice to three times a day

Can people talk about there experience w this fish I hear they can be pretty aggressive. Hoping by getting this one so small that it can grow w other tangs and be peaceful. Currently have a 7” Naso and planning to add Achilles and kole tang so total of 4 tangs in a 210

When they start maturing there might be an issue to be honest, they get pretty large. @eatbreakfast @4FordFamily @HotRocks What's your take on the tang list?

I personally house 7 tangs. 3 acanthurus. (Achilles, PBT and a Powder Brown.)
@4FordFamily is going to be better on this than me. My Achilles and Powder brown went in together. 7 Months ago. Added the Powder blue about 5-6weeks ago. Mine all get along very well. They gripe a bit here and there but nothing that results in damage. I do also have a Kole, and three zebras, desjardini, PT, YT. My sailfin is the largest of all of them 5.5"+ and he keeps everyone in check.

I really wanted a Clown Tang and 4ford advised me not to add one with an achilles. My powder blue is the smallest of my group at around 3". He is bold and if he begins to be problematic as he grows I will remove him.
Jason and I both thought my powder brown was going to be the problem, he was a major jerk in QT but is way lax in DT.

The most aggression in my tank is between the Purple Tang and Yellow tang believe it or not. They were QT'd together and introduced to Display together.

Tips: Always make sure to have enough nori on a clip for them to graze 3/4 of the day.
If you want to add other acan tangs, get them into QT with your current fish as success is much more likely with DT introduction at the same time. Or at least in batches of 3.
If you aren't introducing them together an acclimation box is probably necessary to stand a chance.
IMO a lot of it just depends on the temperament of the individual fish itself, but the above pointers increase the likelihood of a good atmosphere.

getting an achilies to survive with an established clown may be tough. depends on the inidividual achilies really. I have the meanest achilies known to man. The wife calls him albert (i dont know why) but i call him hitler when she isnt around

I can’t add anything to that. Clowns and sohals get really nasty as they grow. They outgrow a 6 foot tank in a few years, often.

Smaller clown tangs aren’t hardy at all, other than that I have nothing else to add! Well-said!

Clown tangs do have a high metabolism, I used brineshrimp soaked in selcon, they also like the green seaweed , you can also add selcon to the tank, everything in the tank will benefit from it.,once your tang gets a little bigger start with the mysis shrimp.
