I agree on Lymphocystis which is a common viral infection that affects the skin and fins of saltwater fish, mainly angels and butterflies. It does not cause any health problems, and rarely if ever spreads and may disfigures the fish.
It gets its' name as it causes growths on the skin or fins, which look similar to cauliflowers. as mentioned, it does not pose any health problem to the fish, but the growths may make the animal less aesthetically pleasing.
Really no treatment recommended as it should fall off by itself. You use melafix which will protect rest of fish and is reef safe.

One other thing. . . Be prepared to have a Nasty fish. I know they are known to bwe and thought I was a lucky one. After 7 months- Nope !
Nasty as can be , manly towards other tangs.

+1 for melafix. You can also feed metroplex with the focus binder agent with food. They are made by SeaChem I believe. Also +1 for them being a terrible community fish. I had one in my 220g, he was a beauty but pretty much watched all my other tangs get beat up so he had to go

Wow so thanks for all the help and sorry I did not reply. I thought I clicked there watch thread but apparently not! I’ll pick up some of the melafix tomorrow.
How long should they stay on ?
How long should I wait until I get concerned?

I’ve had this guy for about a week. No issues yet. But I’ll keep an eye out.

If it is Lymphocystis, the issue usually takes care of itself with good water quality. When I've brought in fish with it, it's usually gone in a few weeks. Beautiful fish!
