Hey guys, I have had an occelaris clown for about 10 months. Hes a bit over an inch. I was at the lfs and decided to pick him up a friend. I did get a nano occelaris and the two are getting along great. Here's the trouble. While looking I happened accross another type of clown I really liked. I looked it up and it had the same description as the occelaris temperment wise. It is also about the same size as my original clown. So I decided to give him a try. Its called a spotcinctis clown. Anyway, things went fine for about 3 hours. Then my clown decided he did not like the yellow invader. He was chasing it and beating him up. Eventually I put in a suction cupped container and segragated the newcomer. After that my clown settled down with his new nano buddy. So, is there any chanse these two might eventually like each other? I really like this new one. Hate to see it go. Any suggestions?

Can't have three in a tank, sorry. The two you put in look to have paired up and so any new clown that is added will be attacked.

I know people that have 3 without trouble. And in a small tank two. 30gal. But maybe that's anexception to the rule. Also the nano was added at the same time as the spot. You think the paired that quick?

I would say that 99% of the time trying to add three to a small tank will end with at least one dead. They could have paired that quick, was the first clown you put in smaller than the one that was in there?

The nano I added is about half inch. Smaller than the original. The spotcinctis is about the same size. Man I'm bummed:-(:-( really liked the spot. Hope my lfs will trade him for something else. :-(

back to the LFS he went. man that really stinks. I guess that's what I get for not doing the proper amount of research. at least the Nano paired Up well

Sorry to hear that but at least you did not have any fish get killed, they paired up fast probably due to the size difference. live and learn! lol

Fiance says I'm on reef lockdown until we have a house. Lol

Pairing takes a while, so don't think you're in the clear just yet. Clowns are touchy creatures, and I am definitely a fan of spotcinctus clowns, but their full size make them a poor fit with anyone but their own kind. It may have helped withstanding bigger tank and multiple hosts, but it's still a toss up on success. I agree with the second tank suggestions, haha
