My tank is young, about 2.5 months. I only have two clownfish currently. They are starting to really hang out and reside by the return pipe. Has anyone used a fake anemone for clowns until they are ready for a real one? I don’t want them to get to attached to this pipe since I plan on an anemone down the road.

I personally have not, but I have seen it done before with no issues. Down the road when you are ready to introduce an anemone you can always try different methods of introducing the clownfish to the anemone. The tube method seems to work a lot.

You can use a fake. I tried putting a fake in the qt with mine to make them feel more at home while I was doing an upgrade and let the dt go fallow for good measure... It didn't work they treat the fake nem like any other piece of plastic and chose a pipe fitting as their "host". some will use the fake nem I'm sure but ime it doesn't seem to be any better than any other piece of plastic to them my fish are also very nem attached so it's not that they are a pair that dosent use a nem host. If you want a surrogate they seem to like fluffy coral they can swim through when a nem isn't present. I've seen things like Euphyllia, fuzzy shrooms, and xenia used regularly. But, I've also seen them take a tank corner or power head host lol.. good luck!

Thanks for the input. Clowns will be clowns. I have seen them hosting coral and well whatever they feel like. Maybe I will try that route. I really don’t want some plastic fake stuff in my tank either.
