Clownfish breeding journal!

I keep my rotis covered so evap is minimal. I don't think it should evap enough to be visible overnight. I keep them around 1.020 normally.

Ddwatson suggested to raise my temp and lower my salinity to .014 to increase my density. I have decent population right now but need to increase it.

This is counter-intuitive but I think you need to harvest more frequently. I shoot for 30% per day and if the culture is especially dense I will harvest 50%. I use the RotuGrow Plus system with Chloramx solution. I keep cultures at room temp 78-80. I do a 20% water change once per week.

What is the rotugrow plus system with chloramx solution? K thanks I will try this in one of my other cultures and see which one give best results. Uall have been great thanks alot for urall info on what works for uall. My algae should be in Friday, and fry should hatch on Saturday so this batch might not do good since I am still working on my problems. I will keep uall informed.

I use RotiGreen for green water. According to Reed, RotiGrow should not be used for green water. I only green the larvae culture water for the first 3 or 4 days.

Crap I just ordered the rotigrow plus, my wife ain't going to let me do another order for the rotigreen and have to pay shipping again. I got the rotigrow in today.

Ok y'all I have been feeding my Rotifers rotigrow plus since Friday afternoon. I have a batch of fry set to hatch in a few, I will let uall know the results in the morning.

Cool, look forward to seeing how it turns out. I would start harvesting your rotifers once you get to a dense culture so they don't crash on you.

Thanks cob I strained out 30% of the water in two cultures last night and put them in the fry tank added few drops of rotigrow and this morning to my surprise. Very few deaths. Never had this many still alive on the next morning usually only 20 or so. I think there might be 150 or more fry still alive.

Ow and here is what I did to the outside of the tank last night since the room isn't completely dark.

Well 98% of the fry r still alive. I guess that the algae, and density of my roti was my problem. Thanks everyone for uall help. Will keep uall posted on the breeding and fry raising. I am sure I will have more ?s.

Well I had about 30 dead this afternoon when I got home from work at 6. I feed them at 6 this morning. They went 12 hrs without me feeding them. I guess my roti cultures aren't dense enought to keep the weak sub stained for 12 hrs.

Well have 6 left. Thought they was really going to do good this time. I guess the density in the roti went down to quick or ammonia got high. Something went wrong. Going to try to get density up in the roti and do water changed with new salt water this time. They layer another batch Saturday night so I will update more in 7 days from now.

Yes kes it is alot of work but I am enjoying the challenge, just wish I could catch a break before my wife makes me quit.

Hi there! I have a question for you. Based on your extensive experience with rearing clownfish, do you have a recommended diet that you feed? Everyone has a different way they do things. I am currently feeding my clowns a mixture of otohime pellets, cyclops eeze, and my own seafood blend concoction. Have you heard anyone warning against using shrimp in a seafood blend as it causes eggs to harden? The reason I ask is that I am having issues with my larvae even being able to break out of their own eggs.. I am concerned because there is indeed shrimp in my seafood blend. Any advice would be helpful at this point. I appreciate your help!s

I feed mine Thera a pellets, frozen brine shrimp, frozen mysis, and cobalt aquatics pro breeder flakes. Haven't had any trouble with eggs at all. Just haven trouble after the fry r harvested, but I will figure it out. I made it further this batch than I ever had.
