Hi everyone. My 3 year old clownfish is not looking good. He has brown reddish spots on his back half of body. White stringy around his lips and eyes. He was fine 3 days ago. I have been fighting Dino’s lately and went into a 3 day blackout with H202 dosing. Anybody have any idea of what is and how to treat?I am going to turn on my IV sterilizer for now.

hi,#reefsquad

Are you talking about the six or so spots on the flank of the fish That look like they have Halos around them? Try as I might, I can’t see anything on the lips or eyes.
Is it still feeding normally? What was your peroxide dose?

No those spots are just part of his pattern. In the pictures he has a brownish red shade near the back half of his body. Maybe this picture may show his eyes and mouth better show his eyes and mouth. The eyes have that white line through them on the picture. It is hard to tell on the picture but it is a film like covering. Also his mouth is always solid orange but now it has the white spots. I dosed regular over the counter 3% h2o2 at 1 ml per 10 gallons once a day for 3 days. He is swimming okay and not breathing crazy heavy but he is not eating much is rare for this guy. Feeding was normal with the black out

I see the sort of diffuse red color under the skin in the vicinity of the spots I first mentioned. To me, that implies something deep-seated, below the skin. I still can’t see anything around the mouth. I don’t think you peroxide dose r the black out had anything to do with this directly. Although the UV sterilizer won’t hurt, it also won’t help if this is an infection in the fish’s muscle tissue. I’ve never had dinoflagellate issues in any of my systems , so I’ll defer to others if this could be toxicity from that.

Thank you for the response. I think he also may be constipated because I can see poop hanging from the hole

The feces I see look clear and brown mixed. That isn't too much of an issue, watch for white stringy feces, or all clear feces. That clown is a bit chunky looking to me, I wonder, do you feed frozen adult brine shrimp? I don't like that food for its poor nutritional reasons, but it does work well as a laxative/bulk former if fed alternately with better foods like pellets and mysids.

I fed him some frozen mysis, dried mysis, pellets, flakes, and he would eat seaweed. Unfortunately whatever infection got worse as the day went on and he started to fight to swim. I treated the tank with prazi pro but he passed away late this afternoon.

Hi Jay, do you think since the OP mentioned constipation and the fish looked ”chunky”, it’s possible it had a bowel blockage that resulted in an internal bacterial infection? Like a hemorragic septicemia? Just trying to learn more! We R2R members appreciate your knowledge!

Could be, but that deep seated pink color is also a sign of inter-cellular Uronema. That is untreatable . Uronema frequently causes co-infection with bacteria, so it could have been both issues. Uronema feeds on bacteria as their normal diet.
