Hi all. I’m new to this. Need help ID this spot on clownfish cheek. Fish have been in QT for 4.5 weeks. I did 2 5 day rounds of Prazipro, then 14 days of Cupramine which ended on Saturday 11/6 (today is 11/9). On 11/6 I did about 30% water change to reduce copper. I have the cuprazorbin there and copper reads 0.0. I just did a 20% water change with slow drip from display tank water. I was going to put the fish in the display and my son said, “Hey, what’s that spot on Bernie the clownfish?” So it just happened in last day or so.

What is the spot?

I have another clown, a six-line wrasse, and an engineer goby in th QT. All bought at same time. No issues on any of them until now. Should I put the good ones in the display? Should I keep them all in QT?

Thanks!

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

At first that looked like a minor scrape, but in looking more, the spot is a bit deeper than I first thought. While this isn’t a symptom of any of the major communicable diseases, I would wait on moving the fish to the DT.
Do you have any antibiotics on hand?
Jay

No antibiotics on hand. After looking at some fish disease forums, it kinda looks like it could be Lymphocystis.
What antibiotics are recommended to have on hand?

Here is a video with a good look.
That is unlikely to be Lymphocystis - it is in an odd location, and clownfish don't get that very often. Lymphocystis is most often seen as raised gray/white nodules on the trailing edges of the fins, sometimes on the body where the fin touches. It can also show up on the fish's jaws, because it is spread by biting. On the side of the face like that is unlikely.

Thanks. So, what now? You think it could be an injury. That could be, as I was moving things around while doing the water change. So just monitor for now? Or Recommend antibiotics regimen just in case?

Clownfish just had a stringy white poop too.

Is the fish still eating ok?
I’d be inclined to just watch the lesion to see if it heals on its own, but the stringy feces is another issue. I’m leaning more towards trying a broad spectrum, gram negative antibiotic such as Neoplex or Maracyn 2

Not eating well. Looking sluggish. I did a freshwater dip. That seemed to help a little. Ordered neoplex…arrives Friday.

I hope it gets to you in time. Please remember though, there can be other diagnoses that we cannot factor in remotely like this. Fingers crossed!
