Hi Hope someone can assist in identifying what might be annoying my clownfish. Had this fish and his mate for several years - no new fish added to tank and otherwise everything is fairly stable. He has a spot on the side just in front of his fin near the gills. Hard to get a good photo. He was off the food for a day and did not like moving that fin for about 24 hours but since then has been eating and swimming normally.
I thought it was an injury but want to be sure. Best attempt at photo attached( I swear he knows I want a photo).

hi welcome to the reef going to love it here!!
lots of fun/info/fun/help/fun....
hopefully just a scratch, try to get a brighter picture, before we call the experts:)

That might be the same scenario as mine. But I did see my clown in the powerhead though.
I would suggest to quarantine the clown and keep an eye on him. From what I was told, if its Brooklynella, it would be quick.
So it's up to you, if you decided to treat him right away or not.

Hi Everyone thanks for the quick responses and the welcome. I had initially thought it was an injury as well but wanted to be sure.

It's been 48 hours since he stopped feeding. he was only off food for 24 hours.

Will keep an eye on him today and try and get a better picture.

cheers

Looks like a bacterial issue in progress. Start with a freshwater dip and follow with melafix. Furan would also work.
Also- Assure the water quality os good, checking :
Amm,onia level
nitrate level
Salinity
Temperature

Are you by chance using tap water from faucet ?

That video worked: looks like the scales are pretty disrupted, and it could be a deep-seated infection. Chunky little fella though!

The two options I see would be 1) to leave it alone and see if the fish can heal itself (if the lesion breaks through the body wall though, it would be fatal) or 2) move it to a treatment tank and medicated with a broad spectrum antibiotic such as kanamycin.

Thanks All,
I did think it might be an infection so we all seem to be on the same page.
I kicked off treating with melafix so will keep going with that.
Water parameters are all good no ammonia, nitrite, Nitrate <5ppm- tank is very stable in that regard and only RO/DI water is used.
Thanks all.
cheers
