Clownfish disease maybe?

If the stringy poop is white, then it's probably Hexamita. Those worms bore from the inside out.

i was just thinking that it sure looked like the worms were coming out the wrong way. Oh no.. :(

Do freshwater dips get rid of worms? I've heard of a freshwater dip before but I'm not sure what it does...

What does that mean? (Sorry I know nothing about diseases at all)

It means he probably has a type of intestinal worm that burrows his way out through the side (in your case) instead of through just the poop. The white stringy poo and the hole in his side is what tells us this. Treat the way humblefish said and make sure to get the vitamins. Is he still eating and acting normal?

Yes he still eats and acts normal... I feel bad for him[emoji24][emoji20]

I know sweetie. It's tuff to watch them go through these things. Treat him with the metro and kanaplex. If you get to it quick enough you might be able to get him healed up and back to healthy and happy.

I was going to say I've had something similar to this - but mine was more "pimple" like and never opened up! It went away on my A. ocellaris after a few weeks.

Anyways - I would say that there is likely some sort of bacterial infection given how the area has turned dark. Might not be a bad idea to keep any open wounds out of the tank and wear gloves whenever possible. I got a pair of those really long dish gloves for like $3 and use them all the time. As for treating with the Kanaplex - I've never used it in a reef tank. If at all possible my feeling is that anti-bacterial meds should only be used in a hospital tank... Thoughts anyone?

The worm thought is an interesting one. I've used metro+focus on a few occasions and at least one time was successful (much more than dosing the water!) but I'm curious why praziquantel isn't also suggested? Obviously the metronidazole specializes in intestinal worms but assuming these worms are now in the water wouldn't it be a good idea to treat for them? As Prazi is fairly well accepted as a reef safe medication it seems like it would be a good thing to treat - if to prevent the spread of anything.

Wilkerson - try calling around to your LFS. I'm sure one of them has a selection of common medications on hand.

Using antibiotics in a DT with corals/inverts can be risky.

There are so many different species of internal parasites/intestinal worms, and there's not one medication which treats them all. For example, praziquantel would be best if it were a simple tapeworm but metronidazole is more effective against Hexamita. Fortunately, we are fairly certain which worm we are dealing with in this instance.

So I dose both metroplex and kanaplex in a QT still right? Or just one?

both at the same time. Follow the directions on both medications for dosages and frequency. Be sure to keep it up for a minimum of 10 days no matter how he looks during that time.

So for some reason the medicine is really late and the clownfish died[emoji24][emoji24][emoji24] but I guess when the medicine gets here I will have some just in case the others get it[emoji20]

I'm so sorry for your loss :(

The yellow tang now has brown stringy poop... is this normal? Or is it the same even though last time it was white poop (for the black clownfish)

Brown is fine. Tang poo can be pretty gross and weird. I've seen my tang poop out a cloud of nastiness and a string of normal. Either way all the fish swarm to eat it o_O

I may just be stressing myself out because of what happened last time but I can't tell if the tangs poop is a very light brown or a white because in person it's definitely darker than his scalpel but even if it is normal I want to make sure... it's long and stringy again and most of it is dark brown but some of it is either a light brown or a white I'm not sure... is it works again?

still looks pretty normal. It's not white. This is what you should see if it's intestinal worms
