Recently my female Darwin and my male clown started swimming on opposite sides of the tank. The only time they are together is during feeding. They are not aggressive towards each other or the other fish. They stopped laying eggs roughly 5 months ago but just started this separated behavior. I have had this clown pair for just over 5 years.

Is it possible for clowns to divorce?

It's 2015 and marriage is unfortunately no longer quite as respected as in years past. Jk. I don't have an answer to your question.

I have a buddy have the same problem when he overstocked his tank in preparation for a bigger tank his clowns separated for 4 months and eventually when they settled into the new tank started swimming together and laying eggs again.

I have 4 chromis, the clown pair, six line wrasse, green coris wrasse, a yellow tang, and a coral beauty. Been happily swimming without any additions for the last 3 maybe 4 months. Extremely odd and I'm hoping that they get back to laying eggs as I have been researching raising the eggs.

They might be getting picked on or one of the other fish has made their bed close to where the clowns stayed and they are looking for some where else

Maybe the second part is true. My female runs the tank as she was my first fish nearly 8 years ago. Yes it took three years and a few clowns being killed before she kept the male I have now. She will break skin if you stick your hand in the tank which is why I was worried that she has disowned my male. About a year ago I bought a mandarin and she grabbed it by the tail and basically shook it to death before I could rescue it.
