I recently noticed my clownfish were hanging around in this specific spot in my tank and when I finally got a close look I saw something I haven't seen before. Any ideas if these are eggs or something else? The clownfish are really protective of that specific area. Oddly enough they chose to do this on a larger piece of rock that has been being taken over by some ricordea mushrooms.

Having had many clutches - hard to tell from pics as they are fuzzy. See if it looks like these:

I turned off my blues and got one with the fish out of frame.

Tried to clear it up a little bit on this one, sorry if my pictures are not the best. Not used to taking pics of the tank focusing on a specific area.

Are they being protected and fanned?
Do they shimmy when fanned?
They are definitely being protected, whenever any other fish starts getting close the clowns rush into that other fish's face and shoo them away. When they return to the area they do put one side against the rock and seem to be fanning with that side fin. As they fan whatever is on the rock does wiggle.

Then those indeed are clownfish eggs.
They will pick a few off (the bad ones)
Congrats!
Enjoy

Thank you! This is exciting! First time I've seen some breeding in my saltwater tank. Thoughts on how long it usually takes from beginning to hatched? Will they move the eggs from that spot to another for them to hatch or after they hatched will they move them or no move at all? Should I setup my spare tank that I use for QT new fish and move them over after hatching so they can be safer?

I though clownfish eggs where like the ones from finding Nemo
Eventually as they develop, they sort of look like that but imagine they are enhanced in the movie

Yes everyone thinks clownfish eggs are only orange. They start off small and orange then get slightly bigger turn dark grey then light grey and you can see the eyes then they hatch and get eaten by our fish. 2 days to a week later depending on your clownfish another clutch will start.

Definitely looks like eggs to me. My pair lay eggs about every 14 days. The eggs hatch at night on day 10. Mine nest inside a small clay flower pot. I've moved the pot to an isolation tank numerous times a day or two before the expected hatch. The fry are almost transparent and smaller than an eyelash. I haven't been able to keep them alive for more than 2 days because I don't have the setup to grow the necessary food for them to consume.
