Nice! Good work! Did you learn anything new or have any ah ha moments with this batch?

Yes for sure. A few lessons learned so far...

1. Set up a schedule. Doing water changes and feedings when you have time or the mood strikes isn’t a path forward. Set up a schedule where you feed every three-four hours and water changes every day or every other day around same time.

This will help you stay focused and not waste resources.

2. At some point water changes overwhelm you and it’s more efficient to set up better filtration than just switching out water.
Adding live rock and/or sand or some biological filtration (sponges, bricks, etc) will help reduce ammonia build up which in turn will save you water changes.

I would say most importantly is to plan at least a month ahead. It may seem like a good idea to buy rotifers and breeder tanks once you see your first clutch of eggs but don’t forget these fish can’t be sold or traded until they are at least a 1/2 inch or bigger which takes several months.
Based on my crude calculations, in six months (which is my projected sell/trade date) I will have over 600 fish at various stages of the development. (New clutch every two weeks for six months at a conservative 50 fish per clutch.)

If someone would have told me that before I get any return on investment I will have to have invested resources into housing 600 fish I would have probably collected stamps or something.

Great question,
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to share.
