Hey everyone, I bought a clownfish last Tuesday and he’s been in quarantine (observation tank) for the past week. I’ve been feeding him 2-3 times a day, either flake or frozen combined with focus and general cure to rid internal parasites/worms/etc. He has a very hearty appetite.
Just yesterday I noticed that part of his body looks slightly different or maybe I didn’t notice it.
His slime coat seems to have been affected, thus I’m thinking he may have Brooklynella. Thoughts?

I had clowns get brook. From what I noticed, their mouths were always open and they swam toward the bottom. It almost looked like they were melting as their mucous was coming off. They also died very quickly. Within 24 hours or so. Hard to tell from the pic but my guess would be no. Keep observing them.

I really do hope Brooklynella isn’t the case here. I just fed him 4 pellets and he ate them rather quickly :)

I think you might just be nervous. But do keep a close eye on him. On my clowns, I could clearly see they were sick. But they died before I had a chance to save them. Sad.

Formalin is pretty nasty stuff for both you and the fish. I have a unopened bottle of the pure stuff just sitting. These days I prefer to use an acriflavine based product like Ruby Reef Rally.

Should I wait to do an acriflavine dip/bath? The clown seems healthy. I don’t really want to put the fish through that if there’s nothing wrong with it and I’m just overreacting hehe

I would start treatment anyhow for Brooklynella since that is so prevalent in clowns. The one picture does show a little white sloughing-like around the head... which is how Brook presents many times. When i got my clowns, that was what i treated for first in quarantine, even before copper and prazipro. I treated with 10days of Metro... but you could probably use General Cure and also knock the chances of external flukes as well since that contains Metro plus Prazi together.

Will do. I wasn’t aware metro could treat brook. I’ll be starting the treatment tomorrow.

Here's a thread on Brook that is helpful. It seems that active infections are best treated with Formulin or Ruby Reef Rally followed by 10 days of Metro.

In the absence of active disease, Metro can be used in quarantine for 10 days as a good prophylactic treatment.

Since you look like you may have it... it'll probably really be more pronounced by tomorrow... probably best to use those other treatments first. But if you can't get those quickly, then Metro for sure if you already have it on hand!

UPDATE:

Since posting this, I’ve been treating general cute. Just today I noticed that my clown has white pimples on him. He’s still eating vigorously. But I’ve noticed he’s been less active than usual. Could this be ich or velvet?
