My clownfish has a piece of his fin which looks almost bitten out and has stopped eating, also his fins are clamped and started doing this weird vibrating thing not scratching like itch. Ive had him for over 5 years, does anyone know what it could be,

Also my black cap gramma stopped eating a couple of days ago but there is nothing apparently wrong with him he just won't come out as much or eat and before he stopped eating he statted eating only small particulate foods, but theres nothing that i can tell is weong with him physically, does anyone know what it could be (had hims since november)

Now the clownfish is using his fins a bit

I had a fish stop eating. Would swim up eagerly to food. But not bite. Tried everything. Soaking food in garlic. Feeding live. Different frozen, flake, pellets. Cut up seafood. Everything! Had to watch the poor thing starve to death. Hope you get some help on here and fare better than I did :(

When fish stop eating that is not a good sign. You should post some pictures and data on your water parameters. Also describe any new additions that might be showing aggression to the clown or gramma. If some are new were they quarantined or not, etc.
Im not allowed a quarantine so no, no new ones were the last added though was 2 months ago at least a fang blenny, however some new snails were added at the weekend and i believe that may be the culprit sadly

That sounds like the problem, probably introduce d something into the tank

Was it white and stringy or normal? Showing interest in food again?
He ate some brineshrimp today, i know not nutritional enough but it was something, others ate normally the mysis other than the bcg, who still appears to be physically fine just not eating, so confused about whats wrong with him. The poo seemed sort of normal i think

Both fish seem to be doing better now, idk if it was this or just time as the best medicine, but did add some polyp lab medic into the tank as i thought cant do any harm, so maybe there is some truth to it, but most likely just a coincidence

Thats good news. One thing I did after my yellow tang recovered was start soaking the food in a vitamin supplement, Selcon. They seem to like it and it adds to the nutritional value of the food. There are probably other supplements but Selcon was recommend by my LFS and people here on R2R.

Ok thank you, i will buy some sounds good, sorry maybe a silly question but how do you soak food in it

Its easy. You need a small cup, ~30ml or so, and you put the dried food or frozen food in it with some of the Selcon and let it soak for ~5 minutes. Some like to strain the food from the liquid before feeding to limit to amount of nutrients going into the tank. I just feed it too them without straining

Thank you will give that a try

Will seachem vitality work the same, just the selcon is a bit expensive here in the UK but ill buy it if its the best thing for my fish
