Hello, Mt two Clownfish have been going through what appears to be the normal mating rituals with the larger one chasing the somewhat smaller one around the tank, both have been doing the twitchy mating dance. Up until today both have been eating albeit the larger one eats first and more. Today I noticed the caramel one haven’t eaten and looks like it’s losing some of its color and just looks funny to me. Here is the best pic I could get as the bigger one keeps forcing him into the corner. Thoughts??

While there is a thing as clown hierarchy where the larger being female hogs all the food, chases male away and even claims territory, the one clown looks faded and may be a sign of brooklynella but will need clearer and full pics under whitest lighting possible to confirm

Appears to be first sign of brook and will require quarantine with treatment using ruby rally pro for at least 21 days
Monitor ammonia levels with a reliable test kit and add aeration with air stone

Thanks, Question though, should I treat the other Clownfish as well?

Also - I have two additional fish set to arrive tomorrow, that I bought pre quarantined from Dr. Reef, what should I do with those guys?

Thanks for the help!!

While I dont advise this, you can place the new fish which are pre-quarantined with Dr. Fish into quarantine tank for at least 14 days and treat with Ruby Rally Pro also which is very safe and treat clowns in display tank with the same for at least 21 days. Ruby is safe for coral and inverts - treat clowns at 1oz per 6 gallons

@Jay Hemdal - what would you do in this case?

Thanks again! That was gonna be my next question, since I don’t have any corals and only one snail and one crab could I just treat in DT. I really wanna try to save this little guy.

Would you advise giving him a formalin bath and then treating DT with Ruby Rally?

So - the other clown is breathing heavily, so this is more than just aggression. Formalin (if you can get it and use it safely) is one option, Ruby Reef is less effective, but safer for you.

Thanks, I will get some first thing in the AM.

Would I be ok to medicate in DT? I have two fish arriving tomorrow, I’m thinking it’s best to set up a 10 gallon QT tank for them or should I put the clowns in QT and add the other fish to DT.

No corals in DT, just a small hermit and one snail

I'm not sure, depends on if you can get a biological filter operational in the 10 gallon QT that quickly - on the other hand, adding new fish to an aquarium with known sick fish in it is always a bad idea. I don't suppose you can postpone the new fish?

Unfortunately no, they have already shipped and left the seller.

I would have to use Prime in the QT, just a question of what set of fish to put in the QT tank I guess.

Prime is not my favorite ammonia control product. I use Amquel and Bacteria in a bottle products, like Dr. Tim's
