Yesterday my clownfish jumped out of my tank. It's not open-top, but there are some gaps. Anyway, I scooped him back up and put him back in, and he calmed down eventually. None of my fish have ever jumped before. He hasn't been eating flake like he usually does, but I've seen him eat a bit of frozen mysis. However, today I noticed that his front fins on either side of his body both seem to have what look like bites taken out of them. He is the bigger clownfish and I don't know if the smaller one's mouth is big enough to do this. Also it's a little weird that the injuries are one on each side of him in the same place. My phosphates and nitrates are a bit higher than I'd like them, but nothing drastic. Haven't done a water change yet because I want to give him some time to de-stress. Last week I did a bigger than usual water change and put in more phosphate remover than usual.
Anyone have any ideas about what might be happening and what I can do?

How long have you had your clownfish together? I ask because I had to rehome my smaller clownfish because of aggression towards the larger one. They had been together one year with no problems and then at night I noticed lots of splashing. I watched, and the smaller clown would charge the larger any time at came close. The aggression then started during the daytime. The larger clown had damaged fins, lethargic, and seemed to be loosing some color. I don’t know exactly why the aggression started. If they both were female, or the larger never turned female for some reason. Not sure. Good luck and hope all works out for you.

They've been together almost 2 years, I bought them together when they were a lot smaller. I have noticed that his fins aren't in the best shape, aside from the "bites" but I put that down to his out-of-water experience

You need a MB bath and a tight fitting mesh lid. As you learned, any fish can jump.
