My true perc clowns just spawned for the first time! I've had them for just over 2 years and they were juveniles when I got them. About 2 weeks ago I saw the male moving some rubble around and "scratching" at the base of the hammer that they host in. Stuck my hand in the tank last night to scrape the glass and they attacked me when I got too close - totally not the norm. Looked more carefully and saw the eggs.

I'm not planning to do anything with the fry. I can't see how many eggs were laid because they're at the base of a large hammer coral colony and they chose a spot that faces towards the back of the tank. I can see about a dime size amount, but I know there's more than that.

Couple quick questions

1) I'm assuming the fry will just be food for the other inhabitants. Should I stop feeding for a week or so after they hatch or do they go quickly? I have a leopard wrasse, orchid dotty, and yellow clown goby along with the clowns.

2) Any concern for ammonia or nutrient spike if the clowns start spawning regularly?

Thanks in advance

The eggs will most likely not even hatch, if they do they will be eaten shortly. No concern for ammonia or nutrients, maybe if you have a tiny 1g or 2g tank.

Some will survive for few days but that's about it. Mine spawn every other week and little ones end up in the sump sometimes. They are cute little fish but unfortunately they become food. Nothing to worry about
