hi everyone,

I received my clownfish two days ago from online vendor. It has not been eating and showing some kind of disease. The clown is currently in 10 gallon qt with an Anthias and powder brown tang. Should I treat the clown since the other fishes are acting normal and eating well.

Is it a fluke or bacteria infection?

The back tailfin looks like it's getting nipped at. Have you noticed any aggression towards him from the other fish?

There is a white thing on its shoulder from day one I received it. I did a two mins freshwater dip but nothing comes off. Also it lip turn kind of white today.

I agree that fish appears to have damage from a scuffle. I don’t see any definite signs of disease, but being that it’s a clownfish I’d check out brooklynella, it’s common in clowns. Any of this apply?

I think it might be because it has some white slime on its body on the day I received it. As you can see in the second picture, its lips and inside is white. The picture doesn’t show its symptom really well. In case of Brooklynella, will it spread to other fish? They are still in QT, and I really don’t want to this spread into my DT. Any tips will be really appreciated!

While waiting for the experts to chime in, was his tail like that when you received him or did it get like that in your qt?

I would treat the entire QT for brook. Do you have access to Metroplex + Kanaplex? The latter will probably be needed for the ensuing infection.

The fish did not make it while I was out for 1 hour. Can I only use kanaplex to treat other fish? Can I use api Furan-2 instead ? Because it looks much more like bacteria infection to me since there is fin rot and body slim is not very bad like brook.

It was not like that when I get it.
So sorry for your loss, he was a beautiful fish.
If he wasn't like that when you got it I would think one of the other fish was attacking him when you weren't looking and killed him. Just my .02.
Possibly the combination of fish in a 10 gallon tank.
With that size tank I would probably only put 1 fish through qt at a time unless they are a bonded pair or very compatible.
I'm not sure but I don't think a bacterial infection would do that much damage that quickly.
I would observe the other fish for any signs of disease as I don't think this was.

If its only bacterial, you can start with just Kanaplex. However, if you don't see improvement after 3-4 days I would add Furan-2 to the mix to widen the spectrum of treatment.

In a QT with multiple inhabitants, if one displays disease, you must assume ALL have disease and treat all.
