I just got a baby 1 1/4" black ice from my local LFS and I have had him for 4 days and I can't get this little bugger to eat. I know this happens with new fish but with a clownfish?

They came in from LA on 3/23 and I picked him up on 3/24. I've tried mysis and arctic pods and he goes to check it out and turns away.

Maybe some clownfish breeders could chine in on a different type of food that I could try? How long can he go without food?

TIA

I'm not a breeder, but I would check with your LFS to see what they were feeding him. When I got my clowns they had actually been eating on pellets and it took awhile for them to take other options. I honestly don't remember what it was that they ate, but it was either exactly what the breeder had or a pellet as similar to that as possible. His showing interest is a good thing.

Good luck!

That is not good... Clowns usually settle in really fast and most I have ever had will eat within 2 days and some do even while I acclimate them. I have seen this before where a clown was always with a lot of other clowns and its by himself now. Kind of separation anxiety. Are there other fish with him? But in most cases if they don't eat there is something wrong. You can try dipping the food in garlic.

We have had several pairs of clowns come in, both juvenile and adults. We have seen them eat while aclimating and have seen them not eat for 4-5 days. Clown or not, every fish is different and will not eat until settled in. You should try some different flakes or really small pellets. Most likely the breeder was feeding the fry Otohime, possibly TDO (top dressed otohime) It is a breeders food and not commonly available to the public. However, MOST breeders will wean the fry onto several different types of flake and pellets so the transition to a home aquarium is a bit easier. Just my .02 ;)
