I’m having some trouble with my tank, when I had setup I was told QT wasn’t needed but that was very wrong…my tests are good , ph-8.0 ammonia 0 nitrite 0 and nitrate 5 salinity 1.025 I let it cycle for 35 days doing everything needed so that leaves me with They came sick they were the only 2 fish in the tank other then 1 turbo snail and 1 hermit it’s a 13.5 gallon nano how should I go about making it safe for future residents?? I have a QT set up now and I have copper medicine on hand. QT has been up for 2 days the fish sadly didn’t make it to it what todo now?

Sorry for your losses; that had to be hard.

Are you testing copper when you use it? Was there a symptom observed that makes you think copper was/is needed? Too much copper is lethal, too little doesn't do anything, and its got to be kept in that tiny 'safe' zone . How long were the fish at the fish store before you bought them? What was the store's water parameters? Here in DFW TX, fish stores range in salinity from 1.018 to 1.028... It makes having a QT a necessity just for salinity acclimation over several days!! Clownfish are pretty tough fish, but too much of a salinity or other stressors will kill anything.

Sorry there isn't enough to say "cause" but I am sorry for your loss.

It was hard.. and I didn’t pickup a copper test kit just yet as they didn’t make it to the QT tank I found out last night I had to test so I’ll grab one of those for the next time I really have to use it , they lasted in my tank for 4 weeks but they were only at the lFS for about a few days I don’t know their water quality sadly ,they came with dark spots I was just thinking it was coral sting from the tank they were purchased in they didn’t get quarantined witch was my biggest mistake but what are my steps now ? Tanks only 2 months old now

Run copper at Therapeutic level 2.25-2.5. but for clowns, over copper, Formalin or even ruby Rally pro may be a good approach also. Ruby is also reef safe to use
With the Zero readings- what test kits are you using ?
If API, they are Very Unreliable and notorious for false readings and your levels are higher than shown.
For copper kit, avoid API brand also- Hann is a more reliable kit

learning I’m doing a few things wrong , yes I’m using API testing kit and the fish were only in the store about 3-4 days before coming home with me I’ll invest in better testing kits…Am I going to have to brake down my QT until the tank is ready for more fish ? And Let my DT go fallow from my understandings ? I didn’t get my first piece of coral in so it’s just live sand /live rock 1 snail and 1 hermit should I also lower the salinity if so what would you recommend
