Hello. My two paired clownfish have been hosting my BTA since they came into the tank, about 4 months ago. But in the last week, they will just not leave the anemone. They are constantly huddling inside it, only swimming out occasionally, for food or to chase other fish away. Could it be that the female is pregnant? How do you tell? Will she lay her eggs inside the anemone? What do you do with them? Can you raise baby Nemos in a tank?

Hi Eleni, From my experience the female will lay eggs in the rocks usually close to where they usually hang out, you can tell they are getting ready because it looks like they are preparing the area then they'll go through the process and sorry to tell you but they will more than likely be food for your fish. Breeders have tanks just for that purpose.

Female will thicken observably before depositing eggs. Male will spend a number of hours fastidiously cleaning a spot near the anemone. My clowns lay about every four weeks and I have a perfect record of raising the babies.

BTA is hosting your clowns, not the other way around.

Good thread with some info on how one person did it

Also find copy of Clownfishes: A Guide to Their Captive Care, Breeding & Natural History by Joy Wilkerson. While old, it still sets standard info wise on clowns.

How do you do it? I really want to

Got distracted and never finished my post …. it was tongue-in-cheek. I have a perfect record … zero for 1,506,213

Do you move the pregnant fish out of the DT to a QT?
