Something strange is going on with my clown. They have slept together in the top corner for the longest time and last night the one was just floating at the surface and tried to jump multiple times. He eventually smacked hard into the top extra hard and then layed in the sand. He didn't move for hours and this morning was "dead". I went to remove the body and he got up and swam with his friend. Rest of today, completely normal behavior, and both ate. Flash forward to about 20 minutes ago. My lights shut off. The one goes to their normal sleeping spot but the one from last night is just thrashing at the top in a different spot splashing everywhere. Suddenly a big splash and now he's laying on the bottom. My dad came upstairs and as soon as the hallway light shone in he got up and swam to the normal spot, but is staying about a foot below the other clown, although the "healthy" one keeps swimming down to be with him. The only change done to the tank recently was that I removed my 2 days ago. I decked it out with a pretty big renovation and while I wait for the silicone to cure my refugium lights that I run opposite my main lights is off. Do you think its possible he is just terrified of the dark or something? I will plug my refugium lights back in for tonight and have them sit in an area that they will shine ever so slightly into the display and see if he ends up being okay. If anybody has even a slight guess, please just tell me. I appreciate anything.

Sometimes the clown do stuff like that submitting to the other clown. To see who's going to be female and male

I have seen them nip a bit and the smaller one always does the little twitching dance and normally they go back and forth for a minute or so. This is nothing like I've ever seen before. Sorry for dirty glass but here is what he looked like.

Yeah my small clown use to lay down on sand bed like it was dead .. but it was just submitting to the other one. If one mite be nipping at the other it could be just going through the sex change faze

I found a solution, not sure if its temporary but they are now cuddled up in the normal top corner and no longer splashing. It sounds so crazy to say but I genuinely think he is scared of the dark. This all started when I took my sump down for the upgrade. I noticed he responded positively to light so I turned my sump lights back and poof. Now he is sleeping normally. Very weird little animals lol
