God I love clownfish.

I was just looking at my clowns, and one is so so much bigger than the other. I’m attaching pictures, but it’s hard to tell. I know she has obviously become the female and is growing at a faster rate to stay dominant, but I was wondering if the male will ever catch up? He doesn’t seem to have grown at all since I got him, while she’s getting huge.

Second, how old would you reckon these are? I’ve had them 5 months, and they’re still relatively small compared to clowns I see in other tanks.

Third, do they look happy/healthy? I really care about these guys and want the best for them.

They look very healthy to me!
Fish will grow at very different rates depending largely on food and genetics. Depending on how big they were when you got them (and going off of average purchase size), I’d say they probably aren’t much older than 6-8 months old.
The female will always take more food than the male, and therefore will always be the bigger of the two. As time passes the male may get close, but always smaller.

That seems about right! I got them around 5 months ago, and they were incredibly tiny. There are some monster size clownfish, excited to see the growth of mine over time. Glad they are doing well. Very friendly at the moment, always coming to check me out and see if I’m feeding them. I bet that will change when they get bigger

They will always beg…though as they get older the biting begins lol

Just wait until you get them an anemone. Then the real fun begins...
I’ve been looking into nems to make sure when the time comes I get them the correct species.

I think they are false percula based on their thin black outlining. I’ve just upgraded to an AI prime 16 so I think once the tank is a liiiitle more mature I’ll be getting one. Can’t wait!

My female is complete hoss compared to the male. She keeps growing, he does not. My husband just said the other day… “jeez do you see how big she is!?!? When did that happen??” lol

You don’t realise how big they are getting when you see them every day. My girlfriend visited recently and she was like “SHE IS MASSIVE” and when I looked at some pictures from when I got them, yeah she’s grown a fair bit!

100 percent. :grinning-squinting-face: I definitely stare at my tank way more than he does, so it wasn’t a surprise to me. I just can’t get over how much bigger she is in comparison. Almost makes me feel bad for him lol

Mine are around 5 and 7 years old. The male will remain small, but if the female dies, he will start to grow and become a female. That happened to me, the female died. I then replaced her with a much smaller clown fish to make sure I would avoid fights. The x male became bigger and is now the female. The new male is remaining small and I had no fight at all.

I had a sebae anemome that came with my tank (added by previous owner). Sadly it perished because the biocube stock lighting isnt a good fit for it. My false perculas loved it though. I believe all the other options, get way too big for my size tank..:( Probably best...... I don't think my female needs any more of a reason to have a bad attitude.

:face-with-tears-of-joy: :face-with-tears-of-joy: :face-with-tears-of-joy: you guys with your clown hate... its next level.... HAHAHAHA
"As I looked into its dead black eyes, I saw the terrible sentience it had in place of a soul. Behind that was the steel will of its leader. Further still I could feel its primogenitor coldly assessing me from the void. And looking back from the deepest recesses of the alien's mind I perceived what I can only describe as an immortal hunger." - Guy who discovered clownfish

(this is a WH40k reference)

Immortal hunger perfectly describes how I feel about these guys. Right now it’s immortal hunger for pellets and shrimp, but soon enough it’ll be for my flesh
